The remembrance [1] of the Beloved [2] is a light that illuminates the heart, and a secret that revives the soul.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May Allah bless our master and lord Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and grant them abundant peace. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, abundant, good, and blessed praise, as befits the generosity of His Face and the might of His Majesty. Praise be to Allah, Whose greatness tongues cannot describe, Whose perfect reality minds cannot grasp, and Whose favors, abundant blessings, and overflowing bounty deeds cannot sufficiently thank. Praise be to Allah, Who created creation by His knowledge, ordained all matters by His power, subjugated the lords 1 by His might, and overcame them by the secret of His wisdom. Praise be to Allah, Who surpasses the great in His generosity, rises above the eminent in His honor and glory, and has chosen for Himself majesty, splendor, light, radiance, glory, and generosity. Praise be to Allah, before Whose majesty tongues are humbled 2, voices are hushed in awe, faces are bowed in reverence, and hearts tremble in fear of Him. Praise be to Allah, Who knows the whisperings of souls, the insinuations of breasts, the intentions of hearts, the treachery of eyes, and what breasts conceal. Praise be to Allah, Who boasts in His exaltation, is exalted in His pride, is mighty in His might, subdues His servants, is self-sufficient in His dominion, illuminates darkness with His light, and knows the secret and the public through His preservation. Our Lord, to You be praise, sovereignty, grace, might, greatness, and majesty. Originator of the heavens and the earth, Possessor of severe punishment and firm strength, the Eternal, the Resurrector, the Inheritor, the Bestower, the Gracious, the Originator, the Kind, the Merciful. He encompasses everything in knowledge and has counted everything in number. Lord of lords, Master of masters, Subduer of subduers, King of kings, Disposer of times. "Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him. And He is the Almighty, the Wise." [Qur'an 59:24] Praise be to Allah, Who has enabled us to praise Him, thank Him, and worship Him—praise that is perpetual, continuous, boundless, growing, ascending, increasing, whose beginning never ceases and whose end never perishes, which nothing can destroy and from which nothing is cut off—abundant praise, as befits His majesty. Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Possessor of majesty and greatness, of omnipotence and might, the Guardian of rain and mercy, the Owner of this world and the Hereafter, Lord of lords 3 and God of gods, Subduer of subduers, Annihilator of hidden things, Revealer of secrets, Great of the celestial kingdom, Severe in omnipotence, Subtle in what He wills. Allah is the Greatest, the First of everything and the Last of everything. There is no deity but Him. Voices are hushed before Him, eyes are dazzled by Him, hearts stand before Him. None decrees matters but Him, none disposes their measures other than Him, and nothing is accomplished without Him. The Powerful, the Forbearing, the Subtle, the Majestic. Glory be to Him, exalted and high. How great is His affair and how severe His omnipotence! All creation glorifies Him, fears Him, and supplicates to Him. He encompasses everything in knowledge and has counted everything in number. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad and his family with the best and purest blessings. O Allah, there is no deity but You, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Mighty Throne, the First of everything and the Last of everything, Creator of creation and its Provider, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Who made angels messengers with wings. You are over all things competent. O Allah, bless Muhammad, Your servant and messenger, the Imam of religion, the leader of the radiant, and the Prophet of mercy. Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise. Exalted is Your praise, blessed are Your names, and good is Your affair. O Allah, to You be praise to the extent of Your greatness and the breadth of Your forbearance, the limit of Your knowledge and the contentment of Your soul. You are worthy of praise and most deserving of it, and most entitled to it. There is no end to praise besides You, and no ultimate goal other than You. So to You be praise for all Your blessings—those past and those remaining, those seen and those hidden, those remembered and those forgotten, those thanked and those denied 4. Glory be to Him Whose throne is in heaven, glory be to Him Whose power is on earth, glory be to Him Whose way is on land and sea. O Allah, to You belongs all praise, to You belongs all sovereignty, to You belongs all good, and to You returns all affairs, their open and their secret. Glory be to the Possessor of might and omnipotence, glory be to the Living, the Forbearing, glory be to the Resurrector, the Inheritor, glory be to the Great, the Most Great. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators. O Allah, to You be praise—praise that is successive, continuous, extensive, complete, enduring, never perishing, not missing in the celestial kingdom, not obliterated in the world, not diminished in gnosis. O Allah, to You be praise—praise whose excellences are not hidden in the night when it retreats, nor in the morning when it brightens, on land and sea, at morning and evening, at dusk and dawn, at noon and before dawn. By Your guidance, You have brought me to salvation, placed me under the protection of infallibility, and I have never ceased to be immersed in the abundance of Your blessings and the succession of Your favors, preserved for You in refusal and abstention, guarded by You in immunity and defense. You have not burdened me beyond my capacity, and You have not been pleased with me except in obedience. So You are Allah—there is no deity but You. You have not been absent, and no absent thing is hidden from You. Your command is only, when You will a thing, to say to it, "Be," and it is. O Allah, to You be praise, like the praise with which You have praised Yourself and with which those who praise You have praised You, those who glorify You have glorified You, those who magnify You have magnified You, and those who exalt You have exalted You—until from me alone, in every blink of an eye and less than that, there is praise equal to the praise of all those who praise You, with the tawhid 5 of the various types of the sincere, the sanctification of the diverse kinds of the knowers, and the praise of all those who offer little praise, and like that which You know and which is veiled from all Your creatures, animate and inanimate. And I desire from You the blessing of what You have enabled me to utter of Your praise, with the easiest of what You have required of me regarding Your right, and the greatest of what You have promised me for my gratitude. You initiated blessings as a favor, commanded me to give thanks as a just right, promised me multiplied increase for it, gave me provision by choice and contentment, asked of me little and insignificant in return, spared me the hardship of trial, did not surrender me to the evil of Your trials, made my trial well-being, favored me with ease and comfort, prescribed for me in religion the easiest of speech and action, and made virtue easy for me, along with what You promised me of the noble proof and gave me glad tidings of...

The lofty station, and You chose me through the greatest of the prophets in call and the most excellent of them in intercession, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and may He grant him abundant peace). O Allah, forgive me for what none can encompass except Your forgiveness, and none can obliterate except Your pardon, and none can expiate except Your bounty. And grant me on this day of mine a certainty by which the calamities and sorrows of the world become easy for me, through longing for You and desire for what is with You. And decree for me forgiveness with You, and let me attain honor. And inspire me with gratitude for the blessing, for You are the One, the Exalted, the Incomparable, the Strong, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, against whose command there is no defense, and from whose decree there is no escape. I bear witness that You are my Lord and the Lord of all things, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Most High, the Great. O Allah, indeed You have permitted me to supplicate and promised me a response to it, so deliver me from every distress. O Helper of every distressed one, remove distress from me, and relieve me of sorrow, for Your mercy and knowledge encompass all things. O Allah, conceal my faults, turn away from me disliked things, and relieve me of hardships, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief after faith, from misguidance after guidance, from humiliation after honor, from abasement after might, and from discord after unity. O Allah, You are the First, so there is nothing before You; You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, so there is nothing above You; You are the Hidden, so there is nothing beneath You; You are the Subduer over Your servants, and the Everlasting after Your creation. Glory be to You, blessed and exalted are You, a great exaltation. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from poverty, from the scattering of affairs, and from the evil of what occurs by night and day. And if an event occurs and my supplication is little and has not yet befallen me, then turn it away from me and make me among those You free from the Fire. O Allah, do not let my enemies gloat over me, nor give them power over me; restrain their hands from me, and preserve my religion for me. O Allah, I have wronged many of Your servants, so compensate them for their grievances with their satisfaction, then forgive me, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful. O Allah, restrain from me the hands of the treacherous, the plot of the plotters, the scheme of the schemers, and the tyranny of the tyrants, for I have entered the morning seeking protection in You, as I do not possess what I hope for, nor can I repel what I fear. O Reliever of anxiety, O Remover of grief, O Answerer of the prayer of the distressed, do not punish me for the multitude of my sins, and pardon what You know of me, for You know of me many sins. If You punish me, it is for my sins, and if You forgive me, then You are the Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, O my Refuge in every distress, O my Helper in every hardship, I ask You by all Your names, those I know and those I do not know, and by the truth of their interpretation, for none knows their interpretation but You, and by every name You have reserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You send blessings upon our master Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, and have mercy upon our master Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, and bless our master Muhammad and the family of our master Muhammad, and have mercy upon us, for You are the Best of the merciful. And grant me security from the punishments of this world and the Hereafter, turn evil away from me, and grant me success in my righteousness in all my hopes for the good of this world and the Hereafter. Indeed, You are over all things competent. O Allah, grant me steadfastness in the matter and determination upon guidance, and gratitude for Your blessing. And I seek refuge in You from the tyranny of every tyrant, the transgression of every transgressor, and the envy of every envier. Through You I attack the enemies, and upon You I rely for the guardianship of the beloved. And I draw near to You through gratitude for what I cannot enumerate or count of the recurring favors of Your bounty and the portions of Your provision, for You are Allah, there is no god but You, the One who establishes in creation Your praise, the One who extends with good Your hand. You are not opposed in Your judgment, nor contested in Your command. You possess of the people what You will, and they possess only what You desire. And You are the Bestower, the Bountiful, the Subduer, the Powerful, the Holy in the light of holiness. You have clothed Yourself with glory and might, and magnified Yourself with dominion and pride, and enveloped Yourself with light and splendor, and adorned Yourself with awe and majesty. To You belongs the ancient favor, the lofty authority, the vast generosity, and the all-reaching power. You have made me among the most excellent of the children of Adam, and created for me hearing that comprehends Your signs, sight that sees Your power, and a heart that knows Your greatness. So I am, for Your favor upon me, praising; and to You, my soul is grateful; and by Your truth, it bears witness. O Allah, to You be praise as many as the number of what Your knowledge has preserved, as many as the number of what Your power has encompassed, and as many as the number of what Your mercy has embraced. And I seek means to You through Your oneness, Your glorification, Your declaration of His uniqueness, Your magnification, Your praise, Your exaltation, Your light, Your compassion, Your knowledge, Your dignity, Your finality, and from You, and Your majesty. And Your beauty, Your authority, and Your power: do not deprive me of Your aid, the benefits of Your honor, and the abundant blessings of Your grace. For You are not affected by the abundance of what You have spread of gifts with the obstacles of stinginess, nor does Your generosity diminish due to shortcoming in gratitude for Your blessing, nor do the treasuries of Your gifts become prosperous through withholding, nor does Your great generosity suffer from Your bestowal of the supreme and noble. Fear of poverty does not befall You so that You would withhold, nor does fear of non-existence befall You so that Your bounty would decrease. O Allah, raise me and do not abase me, increase me and do not diminish me, have mercy on me and do not punish me, grant me victory and do not forsake me, cause me to stumble and do not prefer others over me. Indeed, You are over all things competent. O Allah, make the best of my deeds their endings, the best of my life its last part, the best of my days the day I meet You, and the best of my hours the hour of parting from the beloved from the abode of passing away to the abode of everlastingness, in which You honor whom You love among Your friends and chosen ones. Indeed, You are over all things competent. O Allah, be pleased with me for Your creation, and be pleased with me for Your creation, and grant me the coolness of Your pardon, spread over me Your mercy, and clothe me in the garment of Your well-being. Indeed, You are the Lord of piety and the Lord of forgiveness. O Allah, forgive my sin, erase my mistake, succor me, and deliver me from anxiety, grief, distress, and hardship. Pardon me and do not burden me with what I cannot bear. Gather for me the good of this world and the Hereafter, and turn away from me their evil. O Forbearing, O Compassionate, O Kind, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. Praise be to Allah, who made the night a stillness and brought the day as a means of sight, a blessing and mercy from Him and a favor. He creates what He wills, and He is the Strong, the Mighty. O Allah, indeed I and this day are two of Your creations, so do not test me except with that which is best, and do not adorn for me in it boldness against Your prohibitions, nor committing Your acts of disobedience, nor taking lightly the right of what You have made obligatory upon me. O Allah, I seek refuge in You on this great day from deviation, stumbling, caprice, misguidance, from the prayer of the oppressed, and from evil regard concerning myself, my family, my wealth, and my child. And there is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great. {Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He protects the righteous.} {But if they turn away, say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no god except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne."} O Allah, in You I have entered the morning, and in You I enter the evening, and in You I place my trust, and to You I turn in desire, and from You I am in fear.

O Allah, do not change my body through Your vengeance, nor blacken my form with Your fire, nor cut off my hope, nor disappoint my supplication, nor make the Fire 6 my abode, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, I ask You to make the benefit of my hope in You on this great day the emancipation of my neck from the Fire, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, I have entered the morning and the evening, and the entire affair, from before and after, is Yours; and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-Seeing of His servants. O Allah, O He who manifests the beautiful and conceals the ugly, O He who does not take to task for misdeeds nor tears away the veil, O Great in forgiveness, O Excellent in overlooking, O Vast in pardon, O Extender of both hands in mercy, O Witness of every secret counsel, O Ultimate goal of every complaint, O Acceptor of repentance for stumbles, O Generous in forbearance, O Great in favor, O Initiator of blessings before they are deserved, grant me refuge from the Fire through Your pardon, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, I have entered the morning not owning for myself any harm or benefit, nor can I ward off or bring about anything for myself; and Your decree concerning me in Your prior ordainment encompasses me, and You are over all things competent. O Allah, suffice me on this day, from its beginning to its end, against all harmful things of the people of the earth, and spare me the burden of one whose burden You alone can spare me. O Allah, suffice me against the evil of my soul, the evil of the accursed Satan, and the evil of every possessor of evil among the jinn and mankind; suffice us, grant us well-being, accept our repentance, and have mercy on us with a mercy that makes us independent of the mercy of anyone other than You, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, I have entered the morning and the evening believing in You; I bear witness that You are Allah, there is no god but You alone, no partner has You, and that Muhammad is Your servant and Your messenger, who came with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. O Allah, by the right of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, suffice me on this day against all harmful things of the people of the earth and its inhabitants 7 from among the jinn and mankind, and do not forsake me therein from Your mercy, the coolness of Your pardon, and Your generous forbearance concerning all our sins and our excesses against ourselves; and accept our repentance, for You are the Oft-Returning, the Merciful; and do not give any of Your creatures power over us; indeed, You are over all things competent. O Allah, this day has blossomed through You and shone with Your mercy; so spread upon us therein the benefits of Your bounty and the objects of Your mercy. O Allah, grant us success therein for righteous deeds and profitable trade, and take charge of us therein as You have taken charge of Your righteous servants and the people of obedience among the believers. O Allah, suffice me therein against the burden of my tongue and its slips, the burden of my soul and its desires, my hand and its movements, and all my limbs. O Allah, do not leave upon us therein any sin except that You forgive it, nor any fault except that You conceal it, nor any worry except that You relieve it, nor any poor person except that You enrich him, nor any debt except that You pay it, nor any enemy except that You suffice against him, nor any crookedness except that You straighten it, nor any need among the needs of this world and the Hereafter in which there is Your pleasure and for us there is well-being except that You fulfill it by Your bounty, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, we have entered the morning with no request except Your pleasure; so grant us refuge from the Fire, for we are fearful of it; and do not make our supplication veiled from You, O Possessor of generosity, kindness, compassion, mercy, abundance, bounty, praise, and good blessed commendation, O Great above every great one, O He who has no partner nor minister, O Creator of everything, make me among those who are sincere to You, and grant me security in every hour in this world and the Hereafter, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor; hear and answer, O Abundant in bounty and favor. Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest 8; Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth; Allah is Greatest; Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. Glory be to You; there is no god but You alone, no partner has You. There is none to withhold what You give, nor any to give what You withhold, and the wealth of the wealthy avails not against You. There is no power nor strength except through You, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. Then recite the Fatiha 9 seven times and send blessings upon the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: O Allah, I, despite my weakness, incapacity, extended lifespan, shame from my sins, and fear—O Allah, I am among the most insignificant of Your creatures and the most abject of Your creations; I ask You, relying on the fact that You are the One who answers the supplicant, both near and far, the obedient and the disobedient—otherwise, who am I that I should be fit for addressing You, and from where do I have the qualification to stand at Your door? But what has impelled me to this is my knowledge of the vastness of Your abundant forbearance and my certainty of the increased favor of Your Messenger, our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with You in the hidden and the manifest: that You send blessings and peace upon Your servant, the supreme master, the most luminous support, the hidden beneath the canopies of Your might and majesty, the manifest through the laws of Your command, prohibition, and mercy; Your beloved, the chosen one; Your prophet, the approved one; Your elect, the selected one; Your messenger, the chosen one; the master of the people of earth and heaven; Ahmad, the most praiseworthy, the praised, Muhammad of pre-eternity and post-eternity, by predestination then formation, then realization then creation, then essential manifestation, continuous in judgment without end; and upon his family, companions, followers, inheritors, and party. At Your service, O Allah 10, at Your service; at Your service and ready to obey; all good is in Your hands; desire and action are directed to You; at Your service, Reliever of distress, at Your service; at Your service, the True God, at Your service; at Your service, Possessor of the Ascension, at Your service; at Your service from everything, at Your service; at Your service before everything, at Your service; at Your service after everything, at Your service; at Your service with everything, at Your service. O Allah, guard the sun of Your care for me from its setting, and extend through the shade of my heart towards You upon me and upon whomever You wish among Your servants the abundant shades of its shadows; and make me forget in this moment of mine the observation of the authority of Your manifestation, and immerse me therein in Your light within Your light, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, O Allah, O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful. And may Allah bless and grant peace to His prophet, servant, and messenger, the master of the worlds, our master Muhammad, and upon all his family and companions. Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe; and peace be upon the messengers; and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, seventy times: "Did We not expand for you your breast? And We removed from you your burden which weighed down your back? And We raised high for you your remembrance? So indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease. So when you have finished, strive, and to your Lord turn your desire." 11 Seven times. O Eternal, O Eternal, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, seven times. O Allah, O Creator of time, upon whom time does not pass, and O Creator of space, who is transcendent above space, and O He who revealed Surah al-Asr 12: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By time, indeed mankind is in loss, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds and enjoin one another to truth and enjoin one another to patience." I ask You for patience in obedience to You, patience in refraining from disobedience to You, and perseverance in striving in Your service; and I ask You by the speaking tongue of the time from You and the tongue of special intimacy with You to immerse me in the sea of intimacy, protect me from the evil of jinn and mankind, help me to preserve the limits, and annihilate me in the witnessed from witnessing, until nothing remains—and He is the Everlasting—except the King.

The Worshipped One, O our Lord, O our Lord, seven times, with blessings, peace, and benedictions upon the spirit of the body of mysteries 13, and the tablet of the sura of lights 14, the master of the age 15 since he was and time remains his servant, Your servant who has never ceased to stand for You by Your command, from where You are, in the best manner You know of any of Your creation, and Your beloved, Your chosen one, Your intimate, Your prophet, Your messenger, Your friend, the master of creation by Your sovereignty over them, and Your overflowing mercy reaching from You to them, our master Muhammad, and upon his family and companions, the successful ones by what You have allotted to them of his support and proximity, amen, O Allah, amen. {And their call therein is, 'Exalted are You, O Allah,' and their greeting therein is, 'Peace.' And the last of their call is, 'Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.'} 16 Then you say: O He, O He, O He seventy times, then be silent for a short while, the duration of reciting 'Say: He is Allah, the One' 17 etc., then say: Aid us with the great glance 18 and the care by which comes the happiness of this world and the next, until our night becomes, through You, a day of intimacy and purity, proximity and election, and make us in our night spiritual, angelic, divine, and deified 19, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, O He whom slumber and sleep do not overtake, O Allah, O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful. My God, the means to You for help and protection is Your beloved and Your prophet, the master of the messengers and the support of those who seek means, our master and patron Muhammad 20 the prophet, the trustworthy messenger. O our Lord, so bless and grant peace upon him always and forever, as long as Your bounty and increasing favor endure, and upon all his family and companions, amen. Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. And peace upon the messengers. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Then he says: O Lord, You are Allah, facilitate for us the knowledge of 'There is no god but Allah' ten times. Then he remembers Allah and concludes all of them with the same conclusion as the recitation of the Hizb 21. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad and all his family and companions. And Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs. There is no power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. Allah, may His majesty be glorified, says: He is One in His kingdom, Allah. Allah is ever Most Gracious, Most Merciful. None showed mercy to the created but Allah. Allah enriches whom He wills among mankind. None gave that enrichment but Allah. Allah impoverishes whom He wills by His decree. None impoverished the poor but Allah. Allah is my Lord, my provision in my hardship. My provision in calamity is none but Allah. Allah I hope for to repel my adversities. None is hoped for in distress but Allah. Allah is the mender of my brokenness, my heart always. None mended the broken but Allah. Allah is my succor, my helper in my yearning. None helped the yearning but Allah. Allah is my sufficiency besides Him, so there was not my sufficiency when fear came but Allah. Allah overcomes everything; I did not fear anything with Him ever, for Allah encompasses 22. Allah is the forgiver of my slip along with my error. None forgave the slips but Allah. Allah is my intimacy, populating my heart with Him. None populated the secrets but Allah. Allah, how He overwhelmed the creatures with His bounty. None bestowed goodness but Allah. Allah gives us without recompense, and none granted such favor but Allah. Allah forgives every sin out of mercy. None spread forgiveness but Allah. And upon the Prophet, his family and companions, as long as the kingdom of Allah endures, may Allah bless him. O Allah, bless, grant peace, and send benedictions upon our master Muhammad and upon his family, his companions, his wives, and his offspring, to the number of what is in Your knowledge, an eternal blessing with the eternity of Your kingdom. O Allah, bless, grant peace, and send benedictions upon our master Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, as You blessed, had mercy, and sent benedictions upon our master Abraham and upon the family of our master Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O sea of Your lights, mine of Your secrets, tongue of Your proof, bride of Your kingdom, imam of Your presence, treasures of Your mercy, path of Your law, delighting in Your vision, kindled from the light of Your radiance, the eye of the most eminent of Your creation, the quintessence of the elite of Your creatures from Your creation, the Mim of glory, the Ha of mercy, the Mim of sovereignty, the Dal of eternity, the perfect master, the opener, the seal, the light of the lights of the knower, the secret of the secrets of the gnostic 23, the chosen of Your creation, the secret of Your knowledge, the mighty, the precious, whose light preceded creation, and whose manifestation is mercy to the worlds 24, to the number of those of Your creation who have passed and those who remain, and those among them who are blessed and those who are wretched, a blessing that encompasses counting and surrounds limits, a blessing with no goal or end, no term or termination, Your blessing with which You blessed him, an eternal blessing with Your eternity, remaining with Your permanence, with no limit apart from Your knowledge, a blessing that pleases You and pleases him and with which You are pleased with us, to the number of what Your knowledge encompasses and Your book enumerates, and Your pen runs with, and Your will executes, to the number of raindrops, trees, stones, the angels of the Compeller, and all that our Lord created from the beginning of time to its end, a blessing that unties knots and relieves distresses, amen, amen, amen. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. O Allah, bless Your most radiant prophet, Your most luminous lamp, whom You crowned, O my Lord, with the crown of might and the most glorious honor, and raised his mention in every assembly and gathering, and joined his name with Your name, so he is not mentioned but You are mentioned, our master and patron Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the intercessor whose intercession is accepted in the gathering. O Allah, bless, grant peace, and send benedictions upon our master and patron Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, Your great noble servant and Your most luminous lamp messenger, Your pious most righteous beloved, Your pure most chaste chosen one, whom You crowned with the crown of might and the most glorious honor, and brightened his face with perfect beauty and most radiant comeliness, and adorned his neck with the lights of prophethood and messengership 25, and sent him to black and red, and raised his mention in the highest assembly, and magnified his rank in every assembly and gathering, and joined his name with Your name, so he is not mentioned but You are mentioned, and gave him the means, the excellence, the lofty station, and the great intercession on the Day of Resurrection and Gathering. So bless him, O Allah, and his family, a blessing by which we become, through Your favor and generosity, O Most Generous of the generous, O Lord of the worlds, among those who are devoted to his remembrance and infatuated, and rejoice at seeing his blessed face and are gladdened. O Allah, bless and grant peace upon our master and patron Muhammad and upon the family of our master Muhammad, the master of the messengers, the friend of the righteous, the means of those who seek means, the support of those who are connected, the beloved of the Lord of the worlds, the pole of the circles of the saints and the righteous, and the mercy of Allah overflowing upon all creatures. And grant him peace, an eternal peace forever, as long as Your generosity and bounty endure, and Your kindness and favor increase, and Your decree and command are executed, and Your praise and remembrance are sweet, and Your goodness and secret appear, and Your praise and thanks follow continuously, and upon all his family and companions. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And He is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs. There is no power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. 26

He originated the heavens and the earth as a hanif 27, and I am not of the polytheists. There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner; His is the dominion, and to Him belongs praise, and He is over all things competent. I am content with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, as prophet and messenger. O Allah, I am not a lord whom we have newly adopted, nor do You have a partner in Your dominion who aided You over all Your creation. You are our Lord, as we say, and above what we say, and above what the speakers say. I ask You, O my Master, to bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and to manifest disavowal from what I am in. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I cannot enumerate praise upon You; You are as You have praised Yourself. For You are Allah, there is no god but You; not even the weight of a speck escapes Your knowledge in the heavens or on the earth, nor anything smaller than that or larger; no secret is hidden from You, and no lost thing is lost to You in the darkness of hidden things. You have no partner in Your dominion, no contender, no opponent in Your command and decree, and no defender. Your command, when You will something, is only to say to it "Be," and it is. O Allah, to You belongs praise—continuous, successive, expansive praise that endures and does not perish, not lost in the Malakut 28, not obliterated in the Jabarut 29, not annihilated in the Rahamut 30, not neglected in the Raghabut 31. And to You belongs praise like the praise with which You have praised Yourself and with which the praisers have praised You; and to You belongs gratitude like the gratitude with which You have thanked Yourself and with which the thankful have thanked You; and to You belongs glory like the glory with which You have glorified Yourself and with which the glorifiers have glorified You; and to You belongs magnification like the magnification with which You have magnified Yourself and with which the magnifiers have magnified You; and to You belongs the declaration of Your oneness like the declaration with which You have declared Yourself one and with which those who declare Your oneness have declared You one; and to You belongs sanctification 32 like the sanctification with which You have sanctified Yourself and with which the sanctifiers have sanctified You; and to You belongs exaltation like the exaltation with which You have exalted Yourself and with which the exalters have exalted You—praise that is from me alone in every blink of an eye and less than that, like the praise of all the praisers, the gratitude of all the sincere, the sanctification of all the knowers, and the praise of all those who declare Your oneness, those who pray, and those who glorify, and like what You know and are aware of, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, to You belongs abundant, good praise in every state and for every state, for what You have granted me of attaining the goal and achieving hopes, for what You have saved me from the paths of error and misguidance, for what You have guided me to of righteous words and deeds, for the robes of majesty and beauty You have clothed me with, for the radiance of joy and acceptance You have brightened my face with, for preserving me from the severity of trial, for not surrendering me to evil decree and the depth of misery, for making my garment, O my Master, well-being, for granting me ease and comfort, for lavishing upon me Your abundant blessings, for adorning me with the amulets of Your protective preservation, for giving me to drink from the sweet, pure springs of Your beloved, our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, along with what You have promised me of following the noble proof, and what You have given me glad tidings of attaining the lofty, exalted rank, and for making me of the community of Your beloved, our master Muhammad, who is the most excellent of the prophets in calling, the greatest of them in intercession, the clearest of them in path, the most conclusive of them in proof, and for honoring me with his service, for gracing me with his love, for creating me hearing, seeing, sound, upright, safe, and healthy, for not occupying me with a bodily defect from Your obedience, for not withholding Your generosity and the bounty of Your gift from me, and for Your blessings that have encompassed me in this world and the next, and for preferring me over many of Your creatures, giving me an ear to hear Your signs, a mind to understand Your faith, an eye to see Your power, a heart to know Your greatness, a soul to believe in Your oneness. Indeed, my soul is grateful for Your favor, thankful to You, and prostrating to Your right. O Allah, to You belongs praise, O my Master, for guiding me to the landmarks of righteousness and religion, for gracing me with perfection of faith and excellence of certainty, for making beloved to me obedience to You and obedience to Your beloved, our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the seal of the prophets and the master of the messengers—upon him be the best prayers of those who pray and the purest peace of those who greet. And the end of our call is that praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds. "Praise be to Allah, who has fulfilled His promise to us and made us inherit the land, so we may dwell in Paradise wherever we will; excellent is the reward of the workers" 33. "Praise be to Allah, who has removed from us all sorrow; indeed, our Lord is Forgiving, Appreciative" 34. "Praise be to Allah, who has settled us in the abode of permanence by His bounty; no fatigue touches us therein, nor does weariness touch us" 35. O Allah, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, to You I pray and for You I fast; by You I sit and by You I stand. So revive my heart with knowledge of You, and forgive my sin by Your bounty, for none forgives sins but You. O Allah, You are watching me, present with me, powerful over me; You have encompassed me in knowledge, hearing, and sight. So grant me intimacy with You and awe of You; indeed, You are Near, Responsive. O Allah, in You I have believed, so from You and in You is my certainty; in You I have sought refuge, so set right my religion; upon You I have relied, so grant me what suffices me; to You I have fled, so save me from what harms me. You are my Sufficer and the Best Disposer. O Allah, make me content with Your decree, delight me with Your gift, inspire me with gratitude for Your blessings, and make me among Your friends; indeed, You are the Friend, the Praiseworthy. O Allah, place me in Your neighborhood, delight me with Your address; and if I am not worthy of that, You are worthy of it. And bless, O Allah, our master Muhammad and his family, and grant them peace. O Allah, You are our Lord; there is no god but You; upon You we rely, and You are the Lord of the Mighty Throne. Whatever Allah wills happens, and what He does not will does not happen. I bear witness that Allah is over all things competent, and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge and counted all things in number. O Allah, we seek refuge in You from the evil of our souls and from the evil of every creature; You are my Lord, seizing it by its forelock; indeed, my Lord is on a straight path. I seek refuge in the noble Face of Allah and in the perfect words of Allah, which neither the righteous nor the wicked can transgress, from the evil of what He has created, what He has scattered, and what He has brought into being; from the evil of what descends from the sky and what ascends into it; from the evil of what He has scattered on the earth and what comes out of it; from the evil of the trials of night and day; and from the evil of night-visitors and day-visitors, except a visitor who brings good, O Most Merciful. And say: "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the whisperings of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me." I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created. In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. In the name of Allah I begin, and upon Allah I rely.

In the name of Allah, my Lord, I associate none with Him. In the name of Allah, upon my soul and my religion. In the name of Allah, upon my family and my wealth. In the name of Allah, upon everything He has given me. In the name of Allah, the Best of Names. In the name of Allah, Lord of the earth and the sky. I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His wrath and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of the devils and that they should attend me. I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your displeasure, in Your pardon from Your punishment, and in You from You. I cannot enumerate praise upon You; You are as You have praised Yourself. ﴿Did you think that We created you in vain and that you would not be returned to Us? Exalted is Allah, the True King. There is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne. And whoever invokes besides Allah another god for which he has no proof—then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed. And say, 'My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.'﴾ ﴿Say, 'My Lord, judge in truth. And our Lord is the Most Merciful, the One whose help is sought against what you describe.'﴾ My Lord, place me within a circle, and a wall, and sufficiency, and protection, and guardianship, and a rampart. ﴿Sad. By the Qur'an...﴾ ﴿Nun. By the pen...﴾ ﴿Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad.﴾ ﴿Ha Mim. 'Ayn Sin Qaf.﴾ ﴿Ya Sin. By the wise Qur'an...﴾ «Ta Sin» and a secret, and walls, «In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful» from the evil of what I fear and am wary of. «Blessed is He in whose hand is the dominion, and He is over all things competent.» «So Allah will suffice you against them, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.» «And We have placed before them a barrier and behind them a barrier, and We have covered them, so they do not see.» «Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian.» «But Allah is the best guardian, and He is the most merciful of the merciful.» And we have guarded it from every accursed devil, and we have guarded from every rebellious devil. For him are attendants 36 before him and behind him, guarding him by the command of Allah. And that is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing. And Allah encompasses them from behind. «But it is a glorious Qur'an, [inscribed] in a Preserved Tablet.» Most Holy, Most Holy, Most Pure, Most Pure, Lord of the angels and the Spirit. «My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous.» «My Lord, do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors.» I have entered into a fortress: There is no deity except Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Great Throne. And I have sought protection with a thousand thousand 37 'There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great.' And I have interceded through our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, Your Prophet, the Kind, the Merciful, the Affectionate, the Forbearing, the Guide to Your straight path—the path of Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Indeed, to Allah all matters return. Peace be upon Noah among the worlds, and upon Abraham among the prophets, and upon Muhammad among the messengers—peace, a word from a Merciful Lord. Allah bears witness that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge, [that He is] maintaining justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Indeed, to Him belongs creation and command. Blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds. Most Holy, Most Holy, Most Pure, Most Pure, Lord of the angels and the Spirit. I have fortified myself with the Possessor of Might and Compulsion, and I have sought protection with the Lord of dominion and sovereignty, and I have relied upon the Ever-Living who does not die. Our Lord, avert from us harm. Indeed, You are over all things competent. Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. And there is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great. Allah is sufficient for me for my religion; Allah is sufficient for me for my worldly life; Allah, the Generous, is sufficient for me for what concerns me; Allah, the Wise, the Forbearing, is sufficient for me against whoever oppresses me; Allah, the Severe, is sufficient for me against whoever plots evil against me; Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, is sufficient for me at the time of death; Allah, the Kind, is sufficient for me at the questioning in the grave; Allah, the Generous, is sufficient for me at the reckoning; Allah, the Subtle 38, is sufficient for me at the scale; Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Competent, is sufficient for me at the bridge; Allah is sufficient for me, and I am free of all besides Allah. Allah is sufficient for me; there is no deity except Him; upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne. Allah is my witness; Allah is with me; Allah is watching me; Allah is greater, Allah is greater, Allah is greater; Allah is mightier than all His creation; Allah is mightier than what I fear and am wary of. I seek refuge in Allah, besides whom there is no deity, the One who holds the heavens from falling upon the earth except by His permission, from His oppressive servants and His rebellious, denying enemies, and their armies, followers, and partisans from among the jinn and mankind and all the rest of creation. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from any of them exceeding bounds against me or becoming tyrannical. O Allah, be for me a protector from their evil. Exalted is Your praise, mighty is Your protection, holy are Your names, and there is no deity besides You. O Allah, God of Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil, and God of Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac, grant us well-being and do not give any of Your creation power over us with something we cannot bear. O Allah, I do not possess for myself harm or benefit, death or life or resurrection, nor can I take except what You give me, nor can I guard except what You protect me. So grant me success in what You love and are pleased with of righteous speech and action, in well-being. O Allah, You are the One whose help is sought, and upon You is the conveyance. And there is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great. Most Holy 39, Most Holy, Most Pure, Most Pure, Lord of the angels and the Spirit. I am in the sanctuary of Allah. ﴿Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi 40 extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Great.﴾ And with Him is a covering. ﴿There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful. But if they turn away, say, 'Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no deity except Him. On Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.'﴾ And with Him are canopies. ﴿Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He protects the righteous.﴾ And with Him is light. ﴿The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], 'We make no distinction between any of His messengers.' And they say, 'We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.' Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. 'Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.'﴾ ﴿Say, 'O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. 41 In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.'﴾

And You bring down whom You will; in Your hand is all good; indeed, You are over all things competent. You cause the night to enter the day, and cause the day to enter the night, and You bring forth the living from the dead, and bring forth the dead from the living, and You provide for whom You will without account. And when they saw him, they magnified him and cut their hands and said, "Far be it from God! This is not a human; this is none other than a noble angel." O God, protect me and guard me and make me in a fortified refuge and a strong fortress from all Your creation until You bring me to my term safe. God—there is no deity except Him; upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne, and to Him I return. In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: For the security of Quraysh, their security in the winter and summer journey, let them worship the Lord of this House, who fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear. I seek forgiveness from God the Great, whom there is no deity except Him, the Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I repent to Him. I seek forgiveness from God the Great, whom there is no deity except Him, the Living, the Self-Subsisting, the Originator of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, from all my sin and wrongdoing and what I have committed against myself, and I repent to Him. There is no deity except You; exalted are You; indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers. Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers. My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful. He is the Living; there is no deity except Him; so call upon Him, being sincere to Him in religion. Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds. Most Holy, Most Holy, Holy 42, Lord of the angels and the Spirit 43. Say, "Never will we be struck except by what God has decreed for us; He is our protector; and upon God let the believers rely." And if God touches you with harm, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends good for you, there is no repeller of His bounty; He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants; and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. And there is no creature on earth but that upon God is its provision, and He knows its dwelling place and its repository; all is in a clear book. Indeed, I have relied upon God, my Lord and your Lord; there is no creature but He holds it by its forelock; indeed, my Lord is on a straight path. And how many a creature does not carry its own provision; God provides for it and for you; and He is the Hearing, the Knowing. Whatever mercy God opens to people, none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds, none can release it after that; and He is the Almighty, the Wise. And if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say, "God." Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides God? If God intends me harm, are they removers of His harm? Or if He intends me mercy, are they withholders of His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient for me is God; upon Him rely the reliers." O God, I seek means to You, and my state is not hidden from You; so I ask You, O God, that You bestow upon me every good that is with You, until I thereby attain my request and beyond my request; and protect me in my speech and action, and support me in my narration and transmission, and guard my hearing, sight, and intellect, and be my successor over my wealth, companions, and family; and do not entrust me to myself, and be for me a protector and gracious, and take charge of me as You have taken charge of Your righteous servants, and help me as You have helped Your sincere servants, and distinguish me as You have distinguished Your close friends, and open for me, for You are the best of openers, and forgive me, for You are the best of forgivers, and have mercy on me, for You are the best of the merciful. My Lord, expand for me my breast, and ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech. Our Lord, send down to us a table from heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You; and provide for us, and You are the best of providers. Most Holy, Most Holy, Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit. He is God, whom there is no deity except Him, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed; He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. He is God, whom there is no deity except Him, the Sovereign, the Holy, the Peace, the Faithful, the Protector, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme; exalted is God above what they associate. He is God, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names; whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him; and He is the Almighty, the Wise. Muhammad is the Messenger of God; and those with him are severe against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves; you see them bowing and prostrating, seeking bounty from God and pleasure; their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration; that is their description in the Torah; and their description in the Gospel is like a plant that produces its shoots and strengthens them so they become thick and stand firm on their stems, delighting the sowers—that He may enrage the disbelievers through them. God has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward. And the light of my heart with light. God is the Light of the heavens and the earth; the example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp; the lamp is within glass; the glass as if it were a pearly star, lit from a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if no fire touched it; light upon light; God guides to His light whom He wills; and God presents examples for the people; and God is Knowing of all things. Upon them birds in flocks, striking them with stones of baked clay, and He made them like eaten straw. And purify me with sincerity. Say, "He is God, the One; God, the Eternal; He neither begets nor is born; nor is there to Him any equivalent." And protect me from intrusive thoughts and whisperings and from the evil of what You have created by the secret of the two protectors 44, and admit me into the entrances of the noble ones who are regarded with the eye of Your care by the secret of "My Lord, admit me an entrance of truth and bring me out an exit of truth, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority." And drown me in the seas of Your Oneness and seal the mouth of Your Uniqueness, and on my face the gleam of the lightning of proximity from the effect of the awe of Your sovereignty, honored, magnified, venerated, blessed, revered, respected; and clothe me with the robes of proximity and arrival, and crown me with the crown of might and acceptance, and grant me faith by which my heart is at peace from the worry of provision and fear of creation; and bring near to me by Your power a nearness by which You obliterate from me every veil that You obliterated from Abraham, Your friend, so that he did not need Gabriel, Your messenger, nor his asking of You, and You veiled him thereby from the fire of his enemy; and how could he not be veiled from the harm of enemies, from his absence from the benefit of loved ones? No, indeed, I ask You to make me absent by Your nearness to me until I neither see nor perceive the nearness of anything nor its distance from me; indeed, You are over all things competent. For the security of Quraysh, their security in the winter and summer journey, let them worship the Lord of this House, who fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear. O God, You are more secure than anything, and everything fears You; so by Your security from everything and by the fear of everything from You, make me secure from what I fear by Ta Ha and Qaf, and by the Scatterers and the Sand Dunes, and by the terror of the Day of Fear; make me secure from what is feared, O Hidden in kindness; I ask You by the hidden kindness with which none of Your creatures has sought refuge except that he became secure and sufficed; and suffice me the evil of every obstinate tyrant and rebellious devil, and the weak and strong of Your creation; and O Powerful, O Able, O Omnipotent, O Possessor of the Majestic Throne, O Doer of what He wills; do not destroy me for my sins nor for the sins of others; for my disobedience does not harm You nor does my obedience benefit You; indeed, You are over all things competent.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of the devils and the caprices of the sultans 45, from the evil of what their pens write and their dreams delve into and their actions and judgments transgress. And I seek refuge in You from speaking a truth in which I seek other than Your obedience, and from my being adorned before people with what disgraces me before You of disobedience to You. And I seek refuge in You from making me a lesson for any of Your creatures, and from being among the idle procrastinators who waste Your right. O Allah, do not grieve me, for You are forbearing with me; do not punish me, for You are kind and merciful to me; seal my end with faith; receive me with pardon and forgiveness; and bestow upon me Your pleasure, O Tender, O Benefactor, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. My God, O Master of masters, best of those hoped for to repel the prolonged calamity 46. Your servants hope from You pardon and mercy, and security and protection preventing every terrible thing. And You grant him success and right guidance, traversing the path of the Messenger of Allah, the adornment of assemblies. And You make him firm at death and when the angels demand the truth of the questions. My intercessors are Abu Bakr and Faruq 47 the content, and Uthman Dhu al-Nurayn 48, the best of means; Ali, father of the two grandsons 49; and Ibn Abi Waqqas 50; and the Companions 51; and Ibn Awf 52, possessor of generosity and virtues; Sa'id ibn Zayd; Talha; Abu Ubayda; and Zubayr, from the purest of the noble; and Hamza; and al-Abbas; and all the family; and the wives of the best of creation, the most elevated of intellects. Upon him be the prayers of Allah and His peace, may they be a treasure for the great calamities. Ended is the Hizb al-Lutf 53 and the seeking of pardon from Allah, tenderness, and affection. Our Lord, we have heard a caller calling to faith, 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, forgive us our sins and expiate our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection; indeed, You do not break the promise. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, remove us from this town whose people are oppressors, and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, do not place us among the wrongdoing people. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, judge between us and our people in truth, and You are the best of judges. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and cause us to die as Muslims. Allah, Allah, Allah. You are our protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of forgivers. And decree for us in this world good and in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned to You. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people, and save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people. Allah, Allah, Allah. Originator of the heavens and the earth, You are my protector in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die a Muslim and join me with the righteous. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and from my descendants. Our Lord, accept my supplication. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day when the account is established. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, expand for me my breast and ease for me my task and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, cause me to land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best of those who bring to land. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, then do not place me among the wrongdoing people. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell; indeed, its punishment is ever adhering; indeed, it is evil as a settlement and dwelling place. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous, and grant me a reputation of truth among the later generations, and make me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure, and forgive my father; indeed, he was among those astray, and do not disgrace me on the Day they are resurrected, the Day when neither wealth nor children will avail, except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness of which You approve, and admit me by Your mercy into [the company of] Your righteous servants. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, because You have bestowed favor upon me, I will never be a supporter of the criminals. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire. Our Lord, admit them to Gardens of Eternity which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their fathers, their spouses, and their offspring. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise. And protect them from evil consequences, and whoever You protect from evil consequences that Day – You have given him mercy, and that is the great attainment. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, remove from us the punishment; indeed, we are believers. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts any resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, upon You we have relied, and to You we have returned, and to You is the destination. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Allah, Allah, Allah. Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent. Allah, Allah, Allah. My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women, and do not increase the wrongdoers except in ruin. Then say 'Allah' one hundred times. And after that say: There is no god but Allah, the King, the Truth, the Clear. There is no god but Allah, the Strong, the Firm. There is no god but Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. There is no god but Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise. There is no god but Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. There is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is no god but Allah, the Subtle, the All-Aware. There is no god but Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. There is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. There is no god but Allah, the Omnipotent, the All-Powerful. There is no god but Allah, the Protector, the Praiseworthy. There is no god but Allah, the Exalted, the Glorious. There is no god but Allah, the Originator, the Restorer. There is no god but Allah, the One, the Unique. There is no god but Allah, the Single, the Eternal. There is no god but Allah, the Pardoner, the Forgiving. There is no god but Allah, the All-Encompassing, the Appreciative. There is no god but Allah, the Guide, the Patient. There is no god but Allah, the Beneficent, the Oft-Returning. There is no god but Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower. There is no god but Allah, the Near, the Responsive. There is no god but Allah, the Preserver, the Watchful. There is no god but Allah, the Reckoner, the Majestic. There is no god but Allah, the Truth, the Disposer of Affairs. There is no god but Allah, the Loving, the Kind.

There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Affectionate. There is no god but Allah, the First, the Last 54. There is no god but Allah, the Hidden, the Manifest. There is no god but Allah; our master Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and upon his family, ten times. There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the kingdom and His is the praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent, three times. He it is Who sent His Messenger with guidance 57 and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion, even though the polytheists dislike it. So glorified be Allah when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning. And to Him be praise in the heavens and the earth, and at nightfall and when you are at noon. Glorified be Allah, the Mighty, with His praise, as many times as the number of His creation, and as His own pleasure, and as the weight of His Throne, and as the ink of His words, and as the number of what the rememberers remember and what the heedless neglect. Glorified be Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Mighty. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Abraham and the family of Abraham; and grant grace to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You granted grace to Abraham and the family of Abraham in the worlds; indeed You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, Possessor of Majesty and Honor, I make a covenant with You in this worldly life, and I call You to witness—and Your generosity suffices as witness—that I bear witness that there is no god but You alone, without partner; to You is praise and to You is the kingdom, and You are over all things competent. And I bear witness that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger. And I bear witness that Your promise is true, and the meeting with You is true, and the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it, and that You will resurrect those in the graves. And that if You entrust me to myself, You entrust me to weakness, fault, sin, and error; and I trust only in Your mercy. So forgive me all my sins, for none forgives sins but You, and turn to me in mercy; indeed You are the Oft-Returning, the Merciful. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and sufficiency. O Allah, Turner of hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience. O Allah, I have wronged 58 myself greatly, and none forgives sins but You; so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me; indeed You are the Oft-Returning, the Merciful. O Allah, make the best of my life its end, and the best of my days the day I meet You. O Allah, I ask You for chastity, trustworthiness, and good character. O Allah, I call upon You in need, and I supplicate to You in fear, and I weep before You in distress, and I hope in You as a helper, and I rely upon You in expectation. O Allah, guide my heart, secure my fear, and protect me from the misguidance of trials. O Allah, to You is all praise; there is none who withholds what You spread, and none who spreads what You withhold; none guides whom You lead astray, and none leads astray whom You guide; none gives what You prevent, and none prevents what You give; none brings near what You distance, and none distances what You bring near. O Allah, spread over us Your blessings, mercy, grace, and provision. O Allah, grant us the fear of the workers, the work of the fearful, and the certainty of those who rely on You, O Most Merciful of the merciful. I ask You, O Allah, O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful, O Forbearing, O Generous, O Most High, O Mighty, O He in Whose hand is the dominion of all things, and He is over all things competent, to draw our souls to Your exalted presence, and to fill our hearts with the subtle secrets of Your hidden mysteries, and to settle us in the stations of nearness, and to snatch our intellects with the lights of love, and to make us traverse the paths of the attracted ones 59. You are the One Who made the lights shine in the hearts of Your saints, and removed otherness from the hearts of Your chosen ones, and gave them intimacy where the worlds made them desolate, and guided them until the landmarks became clear to them. So guide us by Your light to You, and establish us in the sincerity of servitude before You, and protect us with Your protected secret, and teach us from Your treasured knowledge that which enables us to understand Your commands and prohibitions, O Possessor of abundant generosity and munificence, O He

He is the Existent after every lost thing. Never does one who seeks You fail, nor does one who loses You find [anything]. You are my Lord. There is no god but You. In You I place my trust, to You I turn in repentance, by You I seek protection, and You I call upon. So do not disappoint my hope in You, O Most Generous of the generous. O Allah, You are the One who brings the distant near, the One who is near in answering. So bestow upon me the acceptance of my supplication, and let Your veil cover me. Make me among those who called upon You and You answered them, who asked You and You gave them. Grant me [success] through Your hidden secret 60 and Your manifest, exalted proof 61. O He, O He, O He besides whom there is no god. I ask You by Your swift, near, and answering name to hasten for me the answer and to single me out for repentance. For when I am incapable of reforming myself and have entrusted my affair to You—there is no god but You. O Allah, I have called upon You as You commanded me, so answer me as You promised me. Indeed, You are truthful in promise and do not break the appointment. And I ask You, O Allah, to bestow upon me happiness at meeting You, favor upon arriving before You, dwelling in Your vicinity and under Your shelter, and Your bounties in the abode of everlasting bliss, with those upon whom You have bestowed favor—the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous 62—by Your grace, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad, whose light preceded creation and whose appearance is a mercy to the worlds, to the number of those of Your creation who have passed and those who remain, those who are blessed and those who are wretched—a blessing that encompasses all counting and surrounds all limits, a blessing with no end, no termination, and no cessation, a perpetual blessing by Your perpetuity, enduring by Your endurance until the Day of Judgment. And [send blessings] upon his family and companions, and grant them peace likewise. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And grant, O my Master, Your kindness in our affairs and the affairs of the Muslims, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, send a perfect blessing and grant complete peace upon the Prophet through whom knots are untied, distresses are relieved, needs are fulfilled, desires and good endings are attained, and clouds are sought for rain through his face 63; and upon his family and companions. O Allah, I ask You by his status with You to release the captives, free the imprisoned, write safety for travelers, pay the debts of debtors, relieve the distressed, remove the grief of the grieved, fulfill the needs of the needy, be gentle with the weak and the poor, complete healing for the sick among the believers, and turn the circle of evil back upon the disbelieving people. O Allah, O He from whom no secret is hidden in the corners of solitude, O He from whose knowledge no small or great thing escapes 64, O He for whom forgiving a slip or a sin is not too great—cover us with Your beautiful veil, be our intimate companion in residence and travel, bestow upon us from the abundance of Your immense giving, and do not take us to task for the evil we have earned, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, I ask You for the most abundant reward, the most complete certainty, the most enduring good, the best life, the most noble and beneficial knowledge, the most sincere and elevated deed, the most pleasant and ample provision, and the most enduring and comprehensive good. And I ask You for a humble heart, beneficial knowledge, and ample provision. And I ask You for the completion of Your favor, the continuity of Your well-being, the attainment of hopes in Your worship, and dwelling in the abode of Your honor. O Allah, save us from Your disgrace and humiliation, guard us with Your protection from the calamities of Your trial, open for us the treasures of Your mercy and pleasure, and grant us the greatest share and portion of Your giving and beneficence. O Allah, perfume our mouths with Your remembrance, fill our times with Your remembrance, grant us beautiful submission to Your command, let down over us the veil of Your kindness and covering, help us in Your obedience and piety, repel from us the storms of Your anger and wrath, protect us on land and sea, do not entrust us to ourselves or to anyone other than You, extend over us the hand of Your favor and goodness, and make our reliance in all our affairs upon You and our inclination towards You, O Best of those to whom the hands of supplicants are stretched, O Most Compassionate of those at whose shore of generosity the mounts of sinners alight 65, O Most Perfect of those to whom the needs of the needy are raised, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. And may Allah send blessings upon our master Muhammad, the seal of the prophets and the master of the messengers, and upon his good and pure family, his blessed progeny, his noble and honorable companions, and his wives, the mothers of the believers, and grant them abundant peace, ever-renewing until the Day of Judgment. Glory be to Allah, a glorification befitting the Majesty of Him to Whom belong the glories; and praise be to Allah, a praise by which His blessings increase and which matches their increase in all states; and there is no god but Allah, a declaration of oneness from one whose heart is truthful and sincere with the truth of certainty, free from doubts, suspicions, illusions, and ambiguities; and Allah is greater than to be encompassed or perceived, rather He is the Perceiver, the All-Encompassing of all directions; and there is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Exalted, the Magnificent, the Lofty in degrees; and may Allah bless our Master and Lord Muhammad, the ultimate of virtues and perfections, the lamp of sciences encompassing the lights of prophecies and messages. O Allah, I have entered the morning not owning for myself any benefit or harm, nor death, nor life, nor resurrection. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this day: its opening, its victory, its light, its blessing, and its guidance; and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil within it, and the evil after it. O Allah, make the beginning of the day success, its middle achievement, and its end prosperity; and I ask You for the good of this world and the Hereafter, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. 69 O Allah, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, by Your mercy I seek help. O Allah, I ask You for everlasting bliss that neither changes nor passes away; and I ask You for the bliss of the Day of Resurrection and security on the Day of Fear; and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You have given us and from the evil of what You have withheld from us. O Allah, make faith beloved to us and adorn it in our hearts, and make disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to us, and make us among the rightly guided. O Allah, cause us to die as Muslims, and join us with the righteous, not disgraced, nor regretful, nor causing trials, nor being tried. Amen, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, by the radiance of the light of the veils of Your Throne, I have veiled myself from my enemies; by the might of the Omnipotent, I have concealed myself from those who plot against me; by the intense length of Your strength, I have fortified myself from every authority; by the everlastingness of the Self-Subsisting of Your eternal permanence, I have sought refuge from every devil; and by the hidden secret of Your secret, I have been delivered from every worry and grief. O Bearer of the Throne, O Severe in assault, O Restrainer of wild beasts, restrain from me those who wrong me, and overcome those who overcome me. "Allah has written: 'I will surely prevail, I and My messengers.' Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might." O Allah, I complain to You of my weakness, my lack of resourcefulness, and my lowliness before people. You are the Lord of the oppressed, and You are my Lord. To whom will You entrust me? To a distant one who frowns at me, or to an enemy to whom You have given control over my affairs? 70 If You are not angry with me, then I care not, but Your well-being is more ample for me. O Allah, by the light of Your Noble Face, by which the darknesses are illuminated and the affairs of the first and the last in this world and the Hereafter are set right, [I seek refuge] from Your anger descending upon me or Your wrath befalling me. To You is the right to reproach until You are pleased. There is no power nor strength except with You. O Allah, help me and do not help against me, grant me victory and do not grant victory over me, plan for me and do not plan against me, guide me and make guidance easy for me, and grant me victory over those who transgress against me. My Lord, make me grateful to You, mindful of You, fearful of You, obedient to You, humble to You, penitent and returning. My Lord, accept my repentance, wash away my sin, answer my supplication, establish my proof, guide my tongue, guide my heart, and remove the rancor from my chest. O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Mover of the clouds, Defeater of the confederates, defeat them, shake them, and grant us victory over them. O Allah, we place You in their throats and seek refuge in You from their evils. Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. O Allah, turn away from me worry and grief, and hasten relief for me. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter, and I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly life, my family, and my wealth. O Allah, cover my faults, calm my fears, and overlook my slips. O Allah, protect me from before me, from behind me, from my right 71 and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being taken unawares from beneath me. O Allah, suffice me against the enmity of every enemy, the oppression of every oppressor, the envy of every envier, the trial of every tempter, and the injustice of every wrongdoer, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. Indeed, You are over all things competent. O Allah, suffice me against what concerns me and what does not concern me. Mighty is Your protection, exalted is Your praise, and there is no god but You. O Allah, I ask You by the right of Your Oneness and Your Uniqueness to bring forth for me an invincible protection and a mighty sanctuary by which You protect myself, my family, my wealth, my children, all the blessings of Allah I have, and all those under my care; and realize in me the realities of asceticism so that I am not occupied with other than You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul, from the evil of every possessor of evil, and from the evil of the accursed devil; deliver me from every destruction; and admit me by Your mercy into the company of Your servants whom You have chosen and guided to a straight path; show me everything as coming from You so that I do not love hastening what You have delayed nor delaying what You have hastened; fill my heart with Your love so that I find no room for other than You. Indeed, You are over all things competent. O Allah, I have accounted with You for everything that has befallen me, recent and old, and everything that has befallen this community likewise. O Allah, I have accounted with You for all of that, and I say in it, returning: "Indeed, we belong to Allah 72 and indeed to Him we will return."

O Allah, grant me and them protection 73 in all of that forever, and give me and them something better in return. And make me and them among the grateful. O Allah, I entrust to You forever what we love and whom we love, and all of this community, and what You have bestowed upon me and it. And grant me and them and my dependents and their dependents protection through Your most beautiful perpetual favors. And I say in that, as a comprehensive statement: "Whatever Allah wills; there is no power except with Allah." O Allah, have mercy on what You have created, forgive what You have decreed, complete what You have bestowed, make pure what You have provided, do not expose what You have concealed, do not take away what You have granted, and make us among the grateful for Your blessings, among those who remember Your gifts of grace and generosity, among those who strive patiently in bearing what You have charged us with, among those who comply and act in preserving Your trusts and deposits, among those who are granted success and guidance in fulfilling Your obligations and traditions 74, among those who are scrupulous and ascetic regarding what You have forbidden us, among the firmly established and deeply rooted 75 in the sciences of Your Book which You have entrusted to us, among those who are connected and perfect 76 through the gifts of Your secrets which You have favored us with, and among those who are tranquil and confident in the openings 77 and glad tidings that are with You. And grant us, O Allah, expansion of lights, abundance of secrets, deeds of the righteous, rank of the good, stations of the pure, avoidance of the wicked, enmity towards the immoral, purity of the inner self from the help of others 78, and occupation with determination and preparation for the abode of permanence, and mounting 79 towards You in all our states, O One, O Subduer, O All-Knowing, O Oft-Forgiving, O Owner of Sovereignty, O Mighty, O Strong, O Compeller, O Possessor of Might and Power, O He to whom belong victory and ability. O Allah, enrich us with You from the worlds 80, and shine upon our faces the lights of gnosis 81, and open for us the doors of contentment and good pleasure, and make disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to us, and protect us from the trial of the world and women and the calamities of Satan, and deal with us with Your pardon and gentleness in both abodes, and manifest upon us the signs of grace and favor, and adorn us with the ornaments of obedience, and honor us with what You have honored the eminent leaders 82, and take charge of our reckoning with Your hand, and meet us with pardon and forgiveness, for whoever You observe with the eye of Your care and take charge of his reckoning with Your hand attains the rank of felicity and achieves success and security, by Your grace and generosity, O Possessor of Bounty and Beneficence, O Most Generous of the generous, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Lord, O Most Gracious, O He to whom alone is the petition and from whom is hoped the fulfillment. O He whose generosity is vast and whose grace relieves hardships and distress. O He whose forbearance reaches the sinner and is not exclusive to those who draw near. Relieve all our distresses and take charge of us with protection from every feared evil. O He before whose dazzling might and majesty the hearts of the knowers 83 bow in awe. O He at whose radiant beauty and loveliness they are lost in a burning longing in the hearts. Convey to Your lofty presence the one who comes hoping in You from the people of the path 84 with what he seeks. And open upon him with what You opened upon those whom You specially favored with nearness to You without toil. And grant him presence in remembrance 85 and bestow upon him the unveiling of veils and adorn him with beautiful manners. And have mercy on our group and rectify our condition, and forgive by Your grace those present and those absent. And preserve our religion for us, and cause us to die among those whom You have caused to die in the purest of nearness. And be gentle with us forever, and do not afflict us with others, and protect us from the claws of whoever prevails. And repel the harm of the harmers, O Lord of the Highest, from us and from our loved ones and those who are connected. And mend by Your grace the brokenness of every neighbor, and overlook the stumbles of the believers from calamity. Indeed, we have sought intercession with You through the rank of him who excelled all creation, non-Arab and Arab. O Lord, by the Chosen One, Muhammad, be for us in this world and on the day of return. And supply us forever with a straight religion, and with gnoses and gifts 86 that are not taken away, and with continuous well-being and good, wholesome provision without worry or toil, and with righteous offspring and avoidance of sins, and with felicity in every acquired matter. And seal for us with good, and gather us together in the Garden of Paradise 87 in the highest ranks. And upon the Prophet, his family, his Companions, the Followers, and those who have lineage from them, be the purest prayers and peace, whose fragrance spreads as long as a star shines or sets. It is completed by the praise of Allah Most High and His good help. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who raises his need to his Lord. Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who seeks refuge in Allah. Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who holds fast to Allah. Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who seeks victory through Allah. Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who implores Allah for help. 83 Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who relies on Allah. Praise be to Allah and thanks be to Allah, never does a servant fail who trusts in what is with Allah. O Lord, place us in Your neighborhood, and restrain from us the hand of Your evil ones. O Lord, place us in Your impregnable protection, and take care of us with Your swift kindness. O Lord, place us in Your strong fortress, and support us with the sciences of certainty 156, and admit us into Your guarded sanctuary and Your mighty, firm domain, and treat us with Your greatest pleasure, and look upon us with the eye of Your care, and take charge of us with Your preservation and guardianship at every time and moment. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad, the truthful, the trustworthy, the pure, the chaste, the obeyed, the established, and his good and pure family, and his virtuous wives, the mothers of the believers, and his pure and blessed offspring, and his learned and practicing companions, and grant them abundant, good peace that continues until the Day of Judgment. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. O Lord, grant me a repentance by which You erase my sins, for You are the Possessor of forgiveness. O Lord, make our hearts ever firm upon obedience, monotheism, and faith. 84 O Lord, bestow pardon for all mistakes, and save me from wrath and deprivation. O Lord, O my hope, suffice me with You instead of others, for You suffice us without brothers. O Lord, O Master of masters, save me from the trial of tyranny and abandonment. O Lord, purify our hearts from hypocrisy, doubt, polytheism, and disobedience. O Lord, You are the Possessor of Majesty and Sublimity, Might, Honor, and Sovereignty. O Lord, our soul is distressed, and the earth has become narrow for me, so who will grant me security? O Lord, Your forgiveness exceeds my sins in abundance, so You, O Possessor of Generosity, are the Forgiver. O Lord, protect me from afflictions and end my years from enemies and Satan. O Lord, illuminate our hearts so that we see nothing in existence but You with certainty. O Lord, O Master of masters, humble me as an act of generosity from You, by the sanctity of the Quran. O Lord, do not expose Your servant's secret, and conceal him on the Day of Presentation and the Balance. O Lord, by the guiding trustworthy one, Muhammad, the best of creation, grant us security. O Lord, bless him, his companions, and his noble family, the moons of every time. 85 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And may Allah bless our master and lord Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and grant them abundant peace. (The Hizb 157 of Compassionate Entreaties with the Subtle Lights of Illuminating Remembrances) This hizb 157—I was sitting one night in the latter part of the night 158, on the carpet of abasement and need, extending the palms of supplication and urgency towards the mercy of our Mighty, Forgiving Lord, when a flash of divine lights shone upon me, and breezes of eternal secrets blew upon me, drawing the worlds of my innermost being towards the remembrance of compassionate entreaties and subtle lights of illuminating remembrances, which the envoy of the Unseen brought down upon the luminosity of my heart, and the influx of the secret engraved them in the identity of my unseen. So I say: "I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from the accursed Satan. And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins—and who forgives sins except Allah?—and do not persist in what they did while they know. Those, their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein. Excellent is the reward of the workers. And whatever good you do, you will find it with Allah as better and greater in reward. And seek forgiveness of Allah; indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." 86 Then say: 'I ask forgiveness of Allah' one hundred times. After that: 'O Allah, I ask You by the best of Your requests, and by the most beloved of Your names to You and the most honorable to You, and by what You have favored us with through our master Muhammad, our Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, whereby You saved us from misguidance and commanded us to invoke blessings upon him, and made our invocation of blessings upon him a degree, an expiation, a kindness, and a favor from Your giving. So I supplicate You, magnifying Your command, following Your injunction, and seeking to fulfill Your promise, for what is beloved for our Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in fulfilling his right before us, since we believed in him, affirmed him, and followed the light that was sent down with him. And You said—and Your word is truth: "Indeed, Allah and His angels bless the Prophet. O you who have believed, bless him and grant him abundant peace." And You commanded the servants to invoke blessings upon their Prophet as an obligation You imposed and commanded them to do. So we ask You..."

By the majesty of Your Face and the light of Your Grandeur, and by what You have obligated upon Yourself to send blessings—You and Your angels—upon our master Muhammad, Your servant, Your messenger, Your prophet, Your chosen one, and Your elect from among Your creation, the best of blessings You have sent upon any of Your creation. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. Then say: O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad, Your servant and messenger, Your chosen one and guide, a blessing by which I may ascend the stations of sincerity and attain the ultimate distinction, and upon his family and companions, and grant peace, a peace equal to what Your knowledge encompasses and Your Book 159 has enumerated, and Your Pen has inscribed, spreading. After that, the Name of Majesty 160 five hundred times, and at the head of every hundred, "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." This should be done with order and deliberation, presence of heart and concentration of intention, because the spirit is in the carpet of mercy, and with adherence to modesty, sincerity of intention, good manners, and preservation of sanctity. After that, say: "Say: Allah, then leave them in their vain discourse playing" 161. Then mention the Name of Majesty, which is "Allah," a thousand times, and after it say: "Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting" 162. This should be with sincerity and certainty, and turning towards the presence of our Lord, the Strong, the Helper, and yearning for what comes to you from the breezes of proximity and the lights of clear victory. Then mention the Name of Majesty a second thousand times, and after it: "Allah, there is no god but He; upon Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne" 163. This should be with a lowered voice and the ecstasy of the spirit in the highest world, and raising of aspiration to the station of "two bow-lengths or nearer" 164. Then mention the Name of Majesty a third thousand times, and after it: "Allah, there is no god but He; and upon Allah let the believers rely" 165. This should be with raised voice and the heat of longing, and the immersion of the spirit in understanding the meanings of the sciences of the Essence and the subtleties of the secrets of taste. Then mention the Name of Majesty a fourth thousand times, then after it say: "He is the Living; there is no god but He; so call upon Him, making religion pure for Him. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds" 166. This should be with yearning and groaning, steadfastness and firmness, establishment, love, perfect absence, magnification, majesty, and awe. Then say: "He is He" five hundred times, until your worlds disappear in the beauty of the Essence and the perfection of the Attributes, with perfect sanctification and transcendence, and negation of likeness and similitude. Then, when you return from your absence to your senses, and from your intoxication to the station of your sobriety and intimacy, mention the Name of Majesty until the completion of the sixth thousand, then say: "He is Allah, besides whom there is no god, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed; He is the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful" 167. Then say: "He is He" another five hundred times, until your joints burn with the fires of love, and the influxes of your states settle upon the carpet of proximity, and your breaths become fragrant with the breeze of tastes and the wafts of drinking, and your human worlds are erased by the might of Eternity and the majesty of Self-Subsistence, and the traces of humanity are effaced by the blowing of the spiritual wafts, so that you remain a spirit without a body, and a body without a spirit; the "I-ness" has left you, the "betweenness" has been cut off, and the "how-ness" and "where-ness" have vanished. Then, when you awaken from that unseen shock and sober up from that sacred wine, say: "There is nothing in existence but Allah." Then mention the Name of Majesty until the completion of the seventh thousand, then say: "He is Allah, besides whom there is no god, the King, the Holy, the Peace, the Faithful, the Protector, the Mighty, the Compeller, the Proud. Glory be to Allah above what they associate" 168. Then say: "He is He" another five hundred times, until you describe your attributes in the qualities of Majesty and Beauty, and inhale the worlds of proximity and union. This should be with tranquility and dignity, humility and neediness, poverty and necessity, longing and brokenness, and exposure to our Lord, the Mighty, the Compeller, the Kind, the Merciful, the Forbearing, the Generous, the Pardoner, the Forgiver. Surely, to Him belongs creation and command. Blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds. Then say: O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad, the essential light 169 that permeates his secret in all traces of the Names and Attributes, and upon his family and companions, and grant peace. O Allah, send down upon us the tables of secrets, and shine in our hearts the flashes of lights, and beautify our faces with the mark of the righteous, and lodge us in the dwellings of the pious, and adorn us with the ornament of the pure, and purify our hearts from the intrigues of rancor and the filth of others, and ward off from us the hand of the oppressors, the unjust, the wicked, and the plot of the immoral, and gather us among those upon whom You have bestowed favor—the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous—and make us among the winners of Your pleasure in this abode and in that abode, O Most Generous of the generous, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, suffice us against the evil of every evil-doer, the envy of every envier, and the sorcery of every sorcerer, and grant us steadfastness so that our enemies may not harm us outwardly or inwardly, and cover us with Your covering, and protect us with Your protection that no one can remove, and grant us to follow the sunna of Your Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the religion of our father Abraham, Your friend, peace be upon him, and grant us what You have granted the elite among Your servants, and make our fear only of You, and our hope only in You, and fill our hearts with love for You and love for Your Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so that with it the harm of every harmful thing—from humans and jinn—may not harm us, and awaken us in secret and in public, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad and his family and companions and grant them peace. Then recite these verses: I called upon You, O Lord of the heavens and earth, to forgive my sin and cover my honor. For who but You shows mercy to the sinner, even if he is harsh, and hopes in You in this world and at the presentation? By Your forbearance, O Possessor of the Throne, I seek refuge, for I have sins, and today I am punished for some. Grant me refuge, for there is no refuge other than Your door; the means have become narrow in length and breadth. O my Master, You are Allah, the Most Merciful of the merciful, and the Most Generous of givers, and the Greatest of those who are pleased. O my Master, I hope for the relief of my distress and the attainment of my desire from You, faster than a blink. For You are kind to servants and powerful over all things; as You will, it goes. Your existence is existent, Your bounty is vast, and Your kindness, O Bestower, accompanies what You decree. So he who hopes in You never fails, O You whose gift is great; how often have You dealt with pure generosity! My intercessor is the Messenger of Allah and all his family, and their followers in the path of religion and obligation. Upon him be the blessings of Allah, then His peace and His pleasure, filling the heavens and the earth.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And may Allah bless our master and lord Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and grant them abundant peace. (For the attraction of subtle graces 170, gifts, and secrets, and for seeking relief from the accumulation of slips 171). I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder 172, and indeed, We will be its guardian.} I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.} I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance, and exalt Him morning and afternoon.} {It is He who confers blessing upon you, and His angels, to bring you out from darknesses into the light. And ever is He, to the believers, Merciful.} I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {Say, "What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication?"} I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: {And when those who believe in Our verses come to you, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does evil out of ignorance and then repents after that and reforms—indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful."} Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him; glory be to Allah, the Magnificent; glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no might nor power except with Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. Glory be to Him who alone deserves praise; glory be to Him under whose command and in whose grasp are all creatures, and He has commanded them to worship none but Him; glory be to Him who praised Himself by Himself; glory be to Him who lauded Himself by Himself, and none knows how He is except Him. O Allah, I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself. O Allah, we have failed to praise You out of reverence for Your tremendous majesty, and out of fulfilling the right of Your lordship, and out of submission to Your obedience, and out of acknowledgment of Your servitude; so turn to us in forgiveness, for You are more deserving of that than we are. For praise comes from You and to You, and all good is in Your hand. {Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty 173, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living; and You provide for whom You will without account."} {And say, "My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance 174 and to exit a sound exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority."} {And say, "Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is [by nature] bound to vanish."} {And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me."} And there is no might nor power except with Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in Your pardon from Your punishment, and in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You. I seek refuge in the good pleasure of Your care from the wrath of Your jealousy, lest anyone other than me know You; and I seek refuge in the good pleasure of Your beauty from the assaults of Your majesty, so that I may not perish in You; and I seek refuge in the pleasure of Your eternity from the onslaught of the armies of Your pre-eternal manifestation; and I seek refuge in Your pardon from Your punishment, and in the pardon of Your eternal union from the punishment of Your everlasting abandonment; and I seek refuge in You from You; and I seek refuge in Your Oneness from the sweetness of the beauty of witnessing You, lest the lover become characterized by Your Unity and then exit through the claim of selfhood in the station of Your transcendence; and I seek refuge in You from this remembrance, so that I may not be, and You may be, and that I may vanish as I have never ceased to vanish, and You may be as You have never ceased to be. For You are the First of everything and the Last of everything, and You are my Lord; there is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your servant, and I am upon Your covenant and Your promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You. I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in Your pardon from Your punishment, and in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You. I seek refuge in Your pleasure, which annihilates souls in Your love and illumines hearts with the lights of Your knowledge, from Your wrath, which distances the wretched from the carpet of Your presence and deprives them of entering Your Garden; and in Your pardon, which joins the lovers to the people of Your affiliation and honors them with Your service, from Your punishment, which prevents the criminals from inhaling the breezes of Your mercy and burns them with the fire of Your overwhelming force and assault. I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself. I seek refuge in Your pleasure, which makes tongues speak with the jewels of Your wisdom and fills the limbs with gratitude for Your blessing, from Your wrath, which distances the wretched from acting according to Your Sunnah and brings them near to Your stratagem and the descent of Your vengeance; and in Your pardon, which honors the pious with Your gaze and grants them the support of Your connection and union, from Your punishment, which blinds the insight of the distant from contemplating Your kingdom and dominion and Your manifest power, and deafens their ears from receiving Your address and hearing Your admonition. I seek refuge in Your pleasure, which fills the enclosures of Your holiness, from Your wrath, with which You have subdued all Your jinn and humans; and in Your pardon, which illumines the carpet of Your intimacy, from Your punishment, by which You have warned Your servants against Yourself. And I seek refuge in Your pleasure, which fills the pillars of Your Throne, from Your wrath, which has altered [illegible] Your carpet; and in Your pardon, with which You have restrained the hand of the people of Your might; and in Your punishment, with which You have destroyed those who turn away from Your obedience, and the claws of Your beast and the arrows of Your scratch have prevailed. I seek refuge in Your pleasure, which mobilizes hearts toward You, from Your wrath, which prevents the deprived from every good with You; and in Your pardon, which gives glad tidings of joy and bliss to those who approach [illegible], from Your punishment, which announces anger at standing before You. I seek refuge in Your pleasure, which delights the space of the kingdom and dominion, from Your wrath, which subdues servants with death and shows them the assault of majesty and terror; and in Your pardon, with which You have opened the treasuries of mercy and omnipotence, from Your punishment, which prevents the people of sleep and heedlessness from contemplating the dominion of the heavens and the earth and reflecting on the power of the Living who never dies. O Allah, I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself.

Just as You have praised Yourself, I seek refuge in the good pleasure of Your singular Essence (al-dhāt al-fardāniyya) and the attributes of Your lordly perfections (al-kamālāt al-rabbāniyya) from Your wrath (sakhaṭ) which prevents reaching the stations of excellence (al-maqāmāt al-iḥsāniyya) and the openings of the Eternal (al-futūḥāt al-ṣamadāniyya); and in Your merciful preservation (muʿāfātuka al-raḥmāniyya) and the secret of Your sovereign dominion (sirr mamlakātika al-sulṭāniyya) from Your punishment (ʿuqūbatika) which diverts aspirations (al-himam) towards satanic states (al-aḥwāl al-shayṭāniyya) and soulful lusts (al-shahawāt al-nafsāniyya). And bestow upon me special proximity, special nearness, special guidance, special success, special verification, special affirmation, special knowledge, special understanding, special inspiration, special opening, special remembrance, special presence, special gathering, special witnessing, special insight, and write me in the register of the special lovers, and clothe me with the best coat of mail woven from Your love, and make me among those whose tongue and mouth are perfumed with Your remembrance, and cover me with the garment of special repentance, and immerse me in the sea of special light, and grant me the stations of the special near ones, and make Your love and the love of Your beloved, our master Muḥammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, more firmly rooted in my heart than the towering mountains, and sweeter in the core of my heart than sugar and honey, and protect my limbs from sins arising from committing prohibitions and the means leading to violating the limits of the Law and imprisonment in the prison of separation and the darkness of cages. And join me, O Allah, to the rank of speciality and distinction, and combine for me the Law and the Truth, and make me one who researches deeply into their secrets and investigations. O Allah, O Allah, O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful, O Forbearing, O Generous, O All-Hearing, O All-Seeing, O All-Knowing, O Light, O Manifest, O Hidden, O He in Whose hand are the keys of hearts and the facilitation of what is twisted and difficult of affairs. And protect me, O Allah, in my ascents and descents, and save me from the snares of Satan set up for deception and capture, and support me with Your divine support and Your special spiritual secret, and untie what he ties upon my forelock of incapacity and laziness, and tightens upon it like the knot of a stopper. And refine my counterfeit coin with the elixir of Your love, and purify it from the impurities of copper and lead, and rub it on the standard of verification, and open for me the door of truth and affirmation, and do not turn me back disappointed and reversed, and single me out for that for which You created me, and do not occupy me with what You have guaranteed for me, and do not deprive me while I ask You, and do not punish me while I seek Your forgiveness, and conceal my fault on the day when secrets are disclosed and forelocks are seized. And grant me the rank of the solitary ascetics, the firmly rooted pegs, the people of seclusion, fasting, and empty bellies. And admit me into the circle of forbearance, and purify my heart from the darkness of doubt and illusion, and save me from the afflictions of fracture and blemish. O He in Whose hand is release and deliverance, have mercy on us, for You see us, and be kind to us, for You are powerful over what You will, and worthy of answering. O Allah, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, O Helper of every distressed one, O Excellent Protector and Excellent Helper, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers. Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. At Your service, my Master, at Your service. Indeed we have heard Your caller, and we have answered Your caller. So respond to us as You have promised us, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise. At Your service, my Master, at Your service. You are the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden, and You are, of all things, Knowing. At Your service, my Master, at Your service. You are Allah, there is no god but You, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. At Your service, my Master, at Your service. O Allah, I cannot enumerate Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself.

At Your service, my Master, at Your service. Exalted is Your majesty that any disobedient should disobey You or any forgetful should forget You. 183 You are the Seizer of forelocks. 184 At Your service, my Master, at Your service. For You have breathed the spirit of Your command into the secrets of all beings and the bodies of all created things, so the disobedient obeys You through his disobedience, the forgetful remembers You through his forgetfulness, the ignorant knows You through his transgression, and the repentant repents to You through his faith. Whoever rejects Your caller has indeed answered the caller of Your dominion, and whoever rebels against Your obedience is brought back to You by the abundance of Your beneficence. Glory be to You, my Master, how vast is Your forbearance, so that the ignorant thinks You never existed, while the wise realizes that You are ever gentle with us. At Your service, my Master, at Your service. For I have assumed the attributes of servitude and borne witness to You as the true Lord, and I acknowledge that You are my Master, my Lord, my trust, my hope, my provision, my promise, my fortress, and my refuge. I have no strength to bear Your punishment, no power to endure Your reckoning and chastisement, no might to withstand Your rebuke and reproach, and no direction to turn to any door but Yours. So carry me, O Allah, in the ark of deliverance and safety, adorn my face with obedience to You, and deprive me not on the Day of Regret and Remorse. Deal with me with Your gentleness and pardon, O Most Generous of the generous, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. At Your service, at Your service, my Master and my Lord. O Allah, purify our innermost beings from impurities, remove from the eyes of our insight the darkness of doubts and confusion, and let not desire have any way over us, nor falsehood any guide over our deeds, nor Satan any resting place or lodging in our hearts. Make him despair of us as he has despaired of Your mercy, and distance him from us.

from us as You distanced it from Your Garden, and deal kindly with us in all our states with a beautiful kindness, and grant us success to goodness, and make us among those who glorify You morning and evening, and protect us, O Allah, from the evil of natural dispositions, and help us with what You have entrusted us with of trusts, and burn the whisperings of our hearts with the lights of the Muhammadan Sharia, and protect the roaming of our thoughts from illusions and rational impositions, and grant us a breath from You that effects in our states and actions what pleases You and with which You are pleased with us, O Origin of everything that has no origin, O Eternal, O He who sustains things while He is in everything by His will, O Light of the world, O Cause of all, O Creator of the archetype and wonders, how often do I strip myself and return to this human body, and we return from the world of intellect to it, bring me near so that I may be established with You and not return, and if You turn me to this temple, then make me happy with You and inspire me to return to the state in which I turned away from Your presence, O Goal of intellect and the world by essence, O Origin of wisdom, and ultimate bliss, I am the lowly by essence, and You are the Mighty by essence, so do not make me, by Your might, among the most abased, nor by Your resolve among the banished, O He who is the form of everything and the measure of this world and its near existence, veil me from everything that cuts me off from Your perfection, and prevents me from reaching You, and deprives me of Your gift, O Cause of causes, O Eternity of eternities, O First Cause, O Bestower of intellect, bless me in it, O He who has honored us with existence, do not neglect our souls in the world of nature, and single them out in the presence of prostration with watchfulness and witnessing, and lead us in the paths of the righteous in descent and ascent, and spread Your hand over us in standing and sitting, and bestow upon us Your Garden in which Your remembrance does not cease, and in which the essence of the Necessary Existence is not lost, O He who made the angels prostrate to His servant while knowing that he would disobey Him after that prostration, O He whose generosity does not depend on recompense or request, nor is it based on what is little or much of any request, O Vast of goodness, O Merciful, O Forbearing, O Existent, O Allah, O He who gives before asking and is generous.

And seal every sealed word 191, that You may annihilate me in You from myself and make me forget, through Your remembrance, the remembrance of every blameworthy word, and keep me, through Your success and guidance, from the path of every wretched and deprived one. And lead me on the path of every wayfarer inscribed in the servitude of guidance, and grant me possession 192 of every determined matter, and clarify for me the symbol of every spoken and understood thing, so that nothing is hidden from me, as You taught it to Your saints and chosen ones, or inscribed it in the identity of Your elect and pious ones, or inspired it to the elite of Your beloved and intelligent ones, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, O He whom slumber and sleep do not overtake, O Reliever of anxieties, O Remover of sorrows, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, do not strip the light of faith from our hearts, nor the light of knowledge from our minds, nor the light of wisdom from our breasts, nor the light of reverence from our innermost beings, nor the light of humility from our heads, nor the light of remembrance from our tongues, nor the light of the secret from our mouths, nor the light of awe from our souls, nor the light of veneration from our eyes, nor the light of love from our consciences, nor the light of compassion from our hearts, nor the light of longing from our limbs, nor the light of belonging to You from our sides, nor the light of response from our determinations, nor the light of blessing from our treasures, nor the light of divine unity from our creeds, nor the light of belief in what Your beloved, our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) brought from the unseen of our identity. And grant us happiness through the meeting 193, and protect us from the depth of misery, and bestow upon us piety, and make us among the companions of Your beloved, our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the abode of permanence and eternity. O Allah, by his rank with You, cause us to die (118) as Muslims, and cause us to live as Muslims, and direct our forelocks towards good, and make us guided guides, and to Your call listeners and obedient, and to Your Sunnah followers and imitators, and to Your covenants preservers and fulfillers, and to Your Book reciters and well-pleasing, and to Your rulings submissive and content, and with what You have decreed standing and acting, and upon what You have decreed for us patient. And be gentle with us in all gentleness, and be an intimate companion to us in places of bewilderment and fears, and do not destroy us for our sins, and conceal with Your forbearance what has appeared of our faults. Indeed, You are Generous and Noble, and the Noble is not beyond hopes. My God, we have sought refuge in the sanctuary of repentance, and grant us success in answering the prayer with the arrow of hitting the mark, and we intercede with You through our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the lover of Mecca and the inhabitant of Taybah 194. So make us, O our Master, among those who responded to Your caller and answered him, and were among the people of insight and excellence in receiving the secrets of what You revealed to him. And do not hold us accountable for our evil deeds and ugly actions, and take care of us with Your perfect gentleness and Your general goodness, and cover us with Your eternal and lasting veil, and place us under the fortress of Your might that prevents and protects, and do not make us need anyone other than You, and pardon us and forgive us and suffice us the burden, and meet us with Your generosity and support us with assistance, and set right for us all our affairs, its great and its small. O Living, O Self-Subsisting, take care of me with Your gentleness, for I am impatient, a hundred times, and send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as Allah wills. My God, the water rose over (119) the plains and deserts and the bottoms of valleys and ravines, and the sky split and poured forth its torrents, and did not cease in downpour and outpouring, and the stars set, and the earth was covered with the sea of bitter cold, and the cloud remained, and the roofs fell upon their walls and the houses upon their inhabitants, and the women of beautiful cheeks came out of their dwellings, and no veil or curtain remained, and the animals drowned in their deserts and the birds in their nests, and Israfil 195 blew the decree into the horn of annihilation, and the world with its buildings turned to ruin, and faces changed, and the disease became great and the cure scarce, and death sank its claws, and creatures became bewildered as if they were raised for the Day of Separation and Judgment and Gathering and Resurrection and Reckoning, and the laws of residence were abrogated by fleeing from palaces and fortresses to hills and mounds and thickets, and causes were cut off, and friends and companions fled, and people abandoned beds and mistresses and soft garments, and exchanged dwelling in villages for dwelling in tents and entering under ropes, and they saw what was not customary of floods and regrets that turned the young gray and destroyed the old and returned them to graves and corners of dust, and a man fled from his brother and his mother and his father and his wife, and no blame or reproach remained, and the night of sorrow lengthened and did not lift the veil of concealment from its face to see what befell creatures of anxieties and sorrows and pains, and natures and temperaments changed (120) and the deaf winter entered hearts, and destruction and breaking and overturning occurred, and the stars were conjunct in the house of water, and the scorpion stung them with its tail, and they said to it: We have no escape from you, so be patient to gain the reward of affliction. And the trailing star 196 pointed with its tail to the six planets, and the Lion 197 answered its call and responded, and the thunder of calamities laughed and the lightning of misfortunes flashed, and the fire of events did not cease in burning and blazing, and the winds raged against the people of the time, and the cold old woman 198 returned them to the black days, and they fell between claw and fang, and the flood reached the highest point, and the needs of hearts were folded into the ya of the self and the kaf of address 199, and thoughts were bewildered and minds perplexed, and the foundations were broken, and the minds of the people of observation and calculation were stunned, and the weights of exaggeration and the preventing causes from declension doubled, and no agents or inflection affected that, and creatures stood on the brink of destruction and ruin, if You did not take care of them with Your gentleness, O Compassionate, O Benefactor, O Bestower. And hands were extended in supplication, and tongues clamored with desire and fear, and they called out: O Lord of lords, O Creator of clouds, O Emancipator of slaves, O Giver, O Withholder, O He at whose door there is no bribe-taking vizier, nor chamberlain, nor gatekeeper (121), O He in whose hand are creation and security and the variations of destinies, O Repeller of afflictions and difficult calamities, be gentle with us in what Your decrees have brought, so that nothing remains but the beauty of Your pardon, and the pureness of Your generosity and gentleness, O Mighty, O Compeller, O Sovereign, O Subduer, O Generous, O Munificent, O Bestower, O Relenting, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. * No hope but the One, the Eternal * He is the Generous, whose supplicant never fails * He is the Succorer, He succors us in our hardships * He is the Forbearing, He does not hold me accountable for my sin * He is the Hope on the Day of Gathering, when it is kindled * For what has befallen me of others and fear * He is the Munificent, whenever I err, He forgives me * Exalted is Allah above likeness and similitude * How often He has pardoned, He continues to do good to me * The fire of Hell, and people were in occupation My God, the fancies of plans and choices and deceit and the veils of dominations and doubts and suspicions and probabilities have been exhausted, and the contingent power and the intermediaries of passivity have stumbled, and hearts have trembled, and the earth has become narrow despite its vastness for widows and beggars and dependents, and the signs of falsehood and slander and misguidance have appeared, and the lack of submission and compliance to obedience and compliance, and the innermost secrets have been uncovered, and we have deserved punishment and disgrace and chastisement, and expulsion from Your door, and there remains for the claimants (122) when the evidence is established no proof or argument, and no blame after the judge's verdict and the expiration of terms. My God, livestock and dependents have perished, houses have collapsed, roads have been cut off, creatures have fled from towns to deserts and mountain peaks, pregnant women have miscarried, foolishness has disowned its children and men their women, and turmoil and confusion and gossip have increased, and wells and springs have become seas, and the night of fear and dread has lengthened and prolonged, and heroes have retreated, and hearts have reached the throats, and ears have become deaf to admonitions and warnings, and tongues have been silenced.

Concerning supplication and earnest prayer, as earthquakes and terrors accumulate, and the young, the old, and the children are lost—this, O my Master, is only due to the abundance of our sins, our ugly deeds, our preoccupation with what does not concern us, our neglect of the prayers You have made obligatory upon free men and slaves, our addiction to wine and fornication, our devouring people's wealth unjustly, our failure to strive for lawful sustenance, our frequent transgression, tyranny, oppression, bloodshed, and the casting of responsibilities into the corners of neglect. So treat us, O our Master, with Your pardon, and bestow upon us and upon all Muslims repentance and a good end in the present and the future, and make us and them firm upon the two words of testimony 200 at the descent into the grave and the arrival of terror and fears, by Your grace, O Most Merciful of the merciful. O Allah, do not disappoint our hopes in You, nor close in our faces the doors of desire and petition, for we are in need of Your mercy in all states, in stillness and movement, in residence and travel, especially at the setting up of the Balance 201 and the crossing of the Bridge 202, and at the presentation and questioning. Treat us with Your generosity, pardon us, do not take us to task for our ugly words and deeds, support us with Your success, guard our tongues from uttering obscenity, contention, and argument, and bind us with the bonds of fear so that we may return to You in the service of servitude in retreat and approach. Make us masters of our own selves, grant us patience over what You have decreed, rectify in us what is apparent and what is hidden, and inspire us to the path of right guidance and righteous deeds. O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, O Subtle One 203, O All-Aware, O Creator, O Supreme Creator, O Great, O Most High, O Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, O Possessor of might and majesty, O Vast in gifts, Abundant in grace and bounty, O He besides whom there is no god, O He in whose hand are the reins of hearts and the keys of locks. O Allah, succor us with Your pardon, Your gentleness, Your forgiveness, and relief from us, and grant us from good things and well-being what never crosses the mind. And appoint for us gentleness in Your prior decree and Your subsequent command, by the sanctity of "There is no god but Allah, our master Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah"—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—Your truthful Prophet and Your intercessor whose intercession is accepted among all creatures, and by him the knots of gifts are tied, and his noble, eminent, heroic Companions. Upon him and upon them be the best of blessings and the purest of greetings as the days and nights pass. And peace be upon the messengers, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. * Beautiful patience—how near is relief! * Whoever watches Allah in affairs succeeds. * Whoever fears Allah will not be harmed * And whoever hopes in Allah will be where he hopes. And think well of the Generous One, and * Do not despair of distress, constrained and anxious. And call upon your Lord in the darkness, for how often * Has He relieved the night of worries when it grew dark? And say: My God, upon You is my reliance * Never has one failed, O Lord, who sought refuge in You. How many a poor person have You enriched in his need * So he plunged into the deep sea of Your generosity. O Lord, the noose has tightened upon me, so grant * A good ease and bring relief near. My God, the minds of those who reflect and ponder are bewildered by Your manifest power, and the people of fancies, imaginations, and conceptualizations are perplexed by the changes of Your kingdom and dominion. So the sight returns to them humbled and weary. Remove from us what has afflicted us, and take care of us with Your gentleness, O All-Hearing, O All-Seeing. My God, kings have submitted to Your might, mountains have crumbled from the majesty of Your awe, faces have bowed in humble submission fearing Your severity, and everything has yielded to Your greatness. Thought remains stunned and bewildered at what You have decreed upon Your servants and the slaves of Your service. O Allah, You have commanded us to be good to servants and to be gentle with them in all ways, so You are more deserving of that, and more worthy to repel what befalls them. These are seas whose waves have surged upon them, and it has become difficult for them to repel or remedy them. There is no preventer of what You give, and no repeller of what You decree. So we ask You, O Allah, for gentleness in Your decree, safety from Your trial, and return us to You as accepted penitents, and bring us back to You as beloved, fearful ones. Do not destroy us for the evil of what we have done, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, just as You have shown us the humiliation of servitude, show us the honor of Lordship; just as You have shown us the severity of omnipotence, show us the gentleness of mercy; just as You have shown us the incapacity of humanity, show us the generosity of divinity; just as You have shown us the poverty of human nature, show us the riches of Self-Sufficiency; just as You have shown us the awe of majesty, show us the safety of fear; just as You have shown us the secret of particularity, show us the precedents of mercy; just as You have shown us Your wrath, show us Your pardon; just as You have shown us Your concealment, do not let us taste Your deception; just as You have shown us Your forbearance, do not let us see Your punishment; just as You have shown us Your well-being, do not let Your vengeance prevail over us. O Allah, You are Pardoning and love pardon, so pardon us, O our Master; You are Generous and love generosity, so be generous to us.

Upon us, O our Master, and a generous one who loves generosity, so be generous to us, O our Master. O Allah, enrich us with Your gentleness, treat us with Your pardon, and do not hold us accountable for the evil our hands have earned. Look upon us with Your tenderness and compassion. How could it be otherwise, when You have named Yourself the Gentle, and I am Your weak servant, and this is Your noble Prophet? How can the weak fear between the Gentle and the Noble? O Allah, we are content with Your decree, hopeful for what is with You, and desirous of Your pardon and generosity. So do not make us despair of Your mercy, for none despairs of Your mercy except the disbelieving people. O Allah, protect us from evils, ward off calamity from us, withhold from us the flood of wrath from the sky, and do not destroy us with a flood of anger so that we perish with the perishing. Do not expose us to sudden disasters so that we die crushed or drowned with the losers. O Allah, we are incapable of reforming ourselves and straightening the crookedness of our states, our families, our masters, and our children. So straighten their crookedness, and return us and them to You in a beautiful manner, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, calm for us the storms of wrath, bring us gentleness in the execution of Your command, grant us patience for what You have decreed in hardship and ease, bestow upon us the sweetness of recitation and remembrance, teach us the etiquette of servitude in secret and in public, rescue us from the mires of ignorance with the lights of monotheism and gnosis, purify our innermost beings from the darkness of dullness, denial, and disbelief, forgive us our sins, magnify our reward, ward off from us the calamities of sudden events and the misfortunes of time, protect us from the snares of deceit and trickery and the causes of rejection and abandonment, guard us from the humiliation of asking and flattering at the doors of men, the loss of face, and poverty. Protect our tongues from backbiting and slander, and our hearts from the disease of self-admiration, envy, and pride. Suffice us against the evil of the people of misguidance, insolence on earth, corruption, and boasting. Gird us with the sword of protection, care, honor, and victory. Dispose our days in obedience and grant us blessing in life. Look upon us with the eye of Your gentleness in movements and stillness, and create us with the character of the people of struggle and patience. Grant us security from terror and fright, heal us from pain and harm, cover our faults, secure our fears, support us with the noble angels and the Spirit of Command, pardon us, forgive us, and inspire us with our proof at the time of questioning and descent into the grave, for the sake of Your beloved, our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the bridegroom of the kingdom, the fragrant of scent and perfume, and by the right of what You revealed to his heart of the secrets of the Wise Remembrance, and the ten nights, and the even and the odd, and by the right of Surat al-Qadr, and the secret of "By the time, indeed mankind is in loss, except those who believe and do righteous deeds and enjoin one another to truth and enjoin one another to patience." O Allah, make us among those who enjoin truth, who agree upon truth, who unite upon the word of truth, who accustom themselves to truthfulness, who enjoin patience in the face of harm from creation, who establish the witness of truth over themselves, who weigh their deeds in the balance of truth, who build their foundation upon truth, who strive in obedience to their Lord, who know that He is the Truth, who testify that the Messenger is true and that everything he brought is true, whom the winds of fame, desire, and seeking greatness in the eyes of people do not unsettle. O Allah, be gentle with us with all gentleness, remove from our hearts fear of creation and worry about provision, protect us from the thunderbolts of annihilation and crushing, the earthquakes of destruction, drowning, and burning, sudden death, falling, and strangulation. Do not disfigure our faces with the fire of Your punishment, for we have grown old in servitude. What is the reward for one who has grown old in Your service except emancipation? We have beseeched You through the status of the choicest of the chosen among Your servants, the imam of the station of gathering and separation, our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that You pardon us and forgive us, and not burden us with deeds whose bearing is heavy or difficult. Make us among those who have won the race in love for him, or who have drawn near to him by the slightest means, and who have entered with the people of his love into the chain of safety and gentleness, by Your bounty and generosity, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, protect us from evils as You will, ward off from us great calamities as You will, suffice us against the evil of what You have decreed, and be gentle with us in all of that with a gentleness befitting Your generosity. Admit us into Your fortress that cannot be assailed, and cast over us the canopies of Your protection that cannot be violated, O Most Generous of the generous, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, do not disappoint our hope in what we have asked of You, nor deprive us of what we have hoped for from You. Protect us in life and after death, and seal us with the seals of happiness. O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, O Answerer of supplications, Reviver of decayed bones, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

O Allah, our earthly bodies and human natures have come to the point of dissolution by the flood of the waves of the compelling seas 204 and the storms of the winds of predestined fate 205. So protect, O Allah, their clay 206 with the suns of eternal mercies, lest it crack from the cold of non-existent afflictions 207, the assault of temporal events, and the torrential rains that destroy the strength of physical structures 208, and thus it returns to its original form, its earthly clay, and its human accidents 209. And treat them with gentleness 210, O Allah, with all gentleness, and grant them security from afflictions and fears, and free them through the generosity of Lordship 211, the might of Eternity 212, and the favor of Mercy 213, so that they may fulfill the right of servitude 214 and live a good, content, and pleasing life, and act according to the law of Your Prophet, our master Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the best of creation, and his pure and pristine Hanifite 215 Sunnah. And make them happy, O Allah, with Your blessing, with an eternal, perpetual, and everlasting happiness. And supply them with Your sensory and spiritual supplies 216, and do not set up against them the scale of justice 217 lest they perish by their evil words and deeds. O Allah, You have created for them mouths that seek Your beautiful pardon and mercy, ears that heed the warnings of Your admonition and address, hearts that receive the jewels of Your revelation and wisdom, inner hearts 218 that melt in awe of Your fear and reverence, tongues that acknowledge gratitude for Your favors and blessings, limbs that tremble in fear of Your compulsion and assault, faces that rub their cheeks in the dust hoping for Your pardon and the impulses of Your forgiveness, insights 219 that roam in Your dominion 220 and witness the gifts of Your bounty and favor, and thoughts that seek refuge from Your displeasure and anger and the punishment of Your vengeance. And support us, O Allah, with Your merciful support 221, and illuminate our insights with the lights of Your innate 222 gnostic knowledge 223, and crown us with the crown of Your sovereign dominion 224, and gird us with the sword of Your lordly victory 225, and treat us with gentleness, and protect us from Your flood-like punishment 226, and do not destroy us by the evil of our deeds, nor take us to task if we forget or err, nor lay upon us a burden as You laid it upon those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with what we cannot bear, and pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelieving people. O Allah, O He whose gentleness encompasses His creation, and whose goodness reaches His servants, do not remove us from the circle of gentleness, and grant us security from everything feared, and be for us with Your hidden and manifest gentleness, O Hidden, O Manifest, O Gentle 227. We ask You for the protection of gentleness in the decree, and submission with safety at its descent, and contentment. O Allah, You know what has preceded in eternity, so surround us with Your gentleness in what descends. O Gentle One who has never ceased, place us in the fortress of taking refuge in You, O First, O He to whom is the resort and upon whom is reliance. O Allah, O He who cast His creation into the sea of His decree, and judged them with the judgment of His compulsion and trial, make us among those who boarded the ship of salvation 228 and were protected from all afflictions. Our God, from Your care, Your eye 229 was upon him who was treated with gentleness in the decree, and protected by Your care, O Powerful, O Hearing, O Near, O Answerer of supplication. Guard us with the eye of Your care, O Best of guardians. Our God, Your hidden gentleness is too subtle to be seen, and You are the One who is gentle with all creatures. You have concealed the permeation of Your secret in the universes, so none witness it except the people of knowledge and direct vision 230. When they witnessed the secret of Your gentleness in everything, they were made secure by it from the evil of everything. So make us witness the secret of this protective gentleness as long as Your eternal and everlasting gentleness endures. Our God, the decree of Your will rules over servants; no aspiration of an arif 231 or a murid 232 can repel it. But You have opened for us the doors of hidden gentlenesses, whose fortresses prevent every calamity. So admit us by Your gentleness into the fortresses, O He who says to a thing 'Be!' and it is. Our God, You are Gentle with Your servants, especially with the people of Your love and affection. Single us out with the subtleties of gentleness, O Generous. Our God, gentleness is Your attribute, and gentlenesses are Your creation, and the execution of Your decree in Your creation is Your right, and the compassion of Your gentleness towards creatures prevents the full enforcement of Your right upon the worlds. Our God, You were gentle with us before our existence when we had no need of gentleness; would You then withhold it from us when we are in need of it, while You are the Most Merciful of the merciful? Far be it from Your universal gentleness and Your generous bounty, O Most Merciful of the merciful. Our God, Your gentleness is Your protection when You care, and Your protection is Your gentleness when You guard. So admit us into the pavilions of Your gentleness and strike around us the walls of Your protection, O Gentle, O Gentle. We ask You for gentleness forever, O Guardian, protect us from evil and the harm of enemies, O Gentle, O Gentle, O Gentle, from Your weak, fearful, and helpless servant. O Allah, just as You were gentle with me before my asking and my existence, be for me, O High, O my Helper and my Security. Allah is Gentle with His servants. Allah is Gentle with His servants. Allah is Gentle with His servants. I have sensed Your gentleness, O Gentle. I am protected by Your gentleness, O Intimacy of the fearful in the terrifying situation. I have sought intimacy through Your gentleness, O Gentle. I have fortified myself with Your gentleness, O Gentle. I am safe through Your gentleness, O Gentle. I am secure through Your gentleness, O Gentle. I am protected by Your gentleness from ruin, and I am veiled by Your gentleness from enemies, O Gentle, O Guardian. And Allah encompasses them from behind. 'Nay, but it is a glorious Quran, in a preserved tablet.' 233 I have been saved from every grave calamity by the words of my Lord: 'And the preservation of them both does not weary Him, and He is the Most High, the Magnificent.' 234 I am safe from every devil and envier by the words of my Lord: 'And a protection against every rebellious devil.' 235 I have been sufficed against every worry in every way by my saying: 'Sufficient for me is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.' 236 Allah, Allah, Allah. 'Allah! There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi 237 extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them both does not weary Him, and He is the Most High, the Magnificent. There is no compulsion in religion; truth stands out clearly from error. Whoever rejects false worship and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that never breaks. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing. Allah is the Protector of those who believe; He brings them out of darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their protectors are false deities; they bring them out of light into darkness. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein forever.' 238 'There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is your suffering; he is concerned for you, and to the believers he is kind and merciful. But if they turn away, say, 'Sufficient for me is Allah; there is no god but He. On Him I rely, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.'' 239 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. For the security of Quraysh, their security in the winter and summer journey, let them worship the Lord of this House, who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear.' 240 I have sufficed myself with Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ayn-Sad 241 and sought protection with Ha-Mim-'Ayn-Sin-Qaf 242. His word is truth, and His is the dominion. 'Peace'—a word from a Merciful Lord. Ahun, Qaf, Adam, Ham, Ha, Amin. O Allah, by the right of these secrets, protect us from evil and evil-doers, and from every distress You create. Say: 'Who guards you by night and by day?' 243 And by the right of Your merciful guardianship, we are guarded. Do not entrust us to other than Your encompassing, O our Lord, Lord of this. This is the humility of my petition at Your door, and there is no power nor strength except through You.

O Allah, send blessings upon him whom You sent as a mercy to the worlds, our master Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and magnify, exalt 244, honor, and venerate him. My master, do not deprive me of mercy and security, O Tender 245, O Bestower 246. And peace be upon the messengers, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. O Lord, harm has touched my heart and it is broken, so mend my break, for You are the most merciful of those who mend. And grant relief, for I have become cut off from hope in anything other than You, and without You none can prevail. Jonah called out to You in the darknesses, supplicating, and likewise Job when the harm was great. And likewise Abraham when the blaze of fire was kindled, and Israel 247 when his sight became blind. So You saved Jonah from grievous distress, and You removed from Job when he was patient. And the fire of the Friend 248 was transformed into a garden, and You restored Joseph to his father when he looked. How often have You shown mercy, and You are the most merciful of the merciful! How often have You granted victory, and You are the most generous of those who grant victory! How often have You bestowed favor upon the broken by mending him, so Your ease came to him in the strait without his perceiving. You are the Subtle 249, so bestow Your subtlety, my Master, and overlook—are You not the Acceptor of those who stumble? There is none other than You to be hoped for in hardships, and who besides You is called upon and awaited? Sufficient for me is Your knowledge in all hardships, O You who sees what is in the conscience and what is apparent. How many a hardship has by Your subtlety turned into a blessing, and after harm has been replaced with ease! Reach me with Your subtlety, O Subtle One, for indeed the space has become narrow and my patience has been lost. If it is due to my sin that I am afflicted, then I have hope in You, and You are the most vast of those who forgive. Relieve my distress for the sake of Muhammad's rank 250; he is our intercessor when the danger is great 251. And he is the means 252 when no one else is hoped for us, neither from angels nor humans. The prophets came in groups to their peoples, but they [their peoples] hastened to Yasin 253 when the groups arrived. Every soul tomorrow will say, 'What is for me?' and it has no one but the intercessor from Rabi'a 254 in distress. A servant whom Allah has gathered every virtue, and through him is the means, and he is Ahmad 255, the most grateful. By his Praiseworthy Station 256, all creatures praise him, and by his rank the monotheist is saved from Saqar 257. And when distress comes, Muhammad is an excellent refuge, for through him turbidity clears. Soon what you dislike and hate will pass, and near relief and victory will come to you. Whoever holds fast to the rank of Muhammad has protection, care, and glory. The Most Merciful does not break the covenant of Ahmad; so sovereignty belongs to him, and whoever befriends him prevails. His sanctuary protects whoever is his guest; how could he be harmed when his neighbor is the luminous cave 258? A moon that shows you the sun at its rising, and the light of the star and the moon are erased and removed. If it faced the bright full moon, it would not appear in darkness except like a spark of fire. It is enough for the gazelle to face its light, and it shows you a moon in its pastures. Were it not for his radiance, the full moon of the night would not appear, nor would the morning have its brightness. He is the beauty mark of existence, from whose light all being shone, and there is no concealment for what is renowned. O beauty mark of the clear horizon and precious pearl of the necklace for those who have passed and those who remain, intercede, that your servants may be saved from the blaze of a fire that confounds minds with lessons 259. O master of the two worlds 260, I have no intercessor but you, so intercede for one whom you help, he prevails. Rise to the Qurayshite company 261 that includes Abu Bakr and his companion 'Umar. And look upon me with tenderness and mercy, and incline to me, for my trial is one of the greatest. O for the Prophet and his family, from a trial that has left my heart and ribs in sparks. It has robbed sleep from my eye, so my tears flow, and I have been deprived of my rest in the aftermath. O eye, if the Beloved looks, then whenever I meet ease, may I not lack his gaze. O Messenger of Allah, do you hear the call of one crying out, whose soul calamities have toyed with? Or do you see what has happened of trial, that whoever imagines it among people takes heed? Have mercy on my weeping and do not disappoint the call of a supplicant who hopes for your riches when he is poor. He called you after the visit 262, and he who is absent is still protected in your sanctuary, as is he who is present. It has become narrow for him, so be for him a help in his affliction, and strive for deliverance and do not abandon. Ask your Lord to grant me a way out of it, for your heart is how compassionate and how pious! For I am one who must have a return; if you do not reach me, I die, O best of mankind. And I am a man from your community that believed in you and boasts of your glory. So send upon you greetings of peace as a gift, offered to you throughout evening and morning. And upon all the Companions and relatives, as long as the camel-driver hums with your praise, so remember 263. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad and his family and companions and grant them peace abundantly. Praise be to Allah, by whose success righteous deeds are completed. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad, His servant and messenger, and his family and companions and grant them peace. To proceed: This is a description of noble blessings upon the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and a description of their virtues, and a mention of what Allah has prepared for the one who recites them of reward and recompense. It is narrated from the great and virtuous scholars and all the knowers 264, may Allah be pleased with them all, that they said: There is no servant from the community of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who sends blessings upon him with these noble blessings, except that Allah commands Gabriel, peace be upon him, to write for him in the register of his deeds the reward of an accepted pilgrimage. Then after that, Allah the Exalted commands His angels to descend to the grave of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with the light of divine pleasure, and inform him that so-and-so from your community has sent to you 265 this gift. Then the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, rejoices at it, and in his response is that he is my beloved and from my community. And whoever wishes to see the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in his sleep, he should perform ablution after the night prayer on Thursday night or Friday night, pray two rak'as, and supplicate to Allah the Exalted, then recite these noble blessings with sincere intention, presence of heart, and humility, and sleep in a state of ablution and sincerity; then he will see the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and speak with him, and ask him about his state, and he will give him glad tidings of goodness and honor from Allah the Exalted on the Day of Resurrection. And when he departs from the world, Allah commands the nearest angels of heaven to descend to his funeral, and Gabriel, peace be upon him, clothes him in the garments of Paradise. And it is recommended for the one who perseveres in these blessings to instruct that they be written and placed in his shroud in the grave, so that their honor may appear for him.

When it is buried with him, angels descend upon him with plates of light in his grave. Whoever wishes to see this great honor 266, let him dig up the grave of the one with whom it was buried and behold its reward and lights. It is related that in Baghdad there was a woman who had a son of indescribable beauty and comeliness. His mother fell in love with him and became so infatuated with love for him that she was on the verge of destruction. One day her son became intoxicated, entered his home, and slept on his bed. His mother came to him at night, entered his bed in the guise of a strange woman, and seduced him. He had intercourse with her without knowing she was his mother. She became pregnant, and when her pregnancy was complete, she gave birth to a daughter. She then hid the girl from her son and entrusted her to a righteous man from the Hijaz, who took her and traveled with her to his country. She stayed with him for some time. Then the son resolved to travel with the intention of the noble pilgrimage 267. One day in Mecca, he came across the man who had the girl. Seeing her beautiful form and good appearance, he hosted him for a night. They conversed, and by the decree and will of Allah Almighty, the man informed him, saying, 'I have a girl of exquisite beauty and comeliness, with no family, and she is suitable for you.' He proposed to her and married her, not knowing she was his daughter. Then he traveled with her to his country. When he brought her to his mother, she recognized her and recalled her evil deed. She repented for what she had done and grieved intensely, beyond measure, for her action. She could not reveal her deed until she died from the intensity of her grief and the evil of her deed. When she departed the world and joined her Lord, her son wept for her and grieved intensely, beyond measure. There was a woman in their neighborhood who was aware of the mother's secret and circumstances. When she saw the son's grief for his mother, she said to him, 'O you, how long will you weep and grieve for your mother? She was an evil woman who did such and such with you, became pregnant by you with this girl who is now your wife, and you were drunk that day.' She told him the story from beginning to end. When the son heard this tale and verified its truth, he became extremely angry with his mother. He went to her grave with a grave-digger, firewood, and fire, intending to exhume his mother and burn her. She had been constant in reciting these noble prayers 268. When he dug up her grave and opened it, he found her sitting on a throne of fresh pearls, wearing garments of Paradise. When he saw her in that state of honor and great dignity from Allah, he was extremely astonished and bewildered, not knowing what to do with her. He said to her, 'By what means did you attain this great honor, while you were an evil woman who did such and such?' She replied, 'O my son, I used to recite these noble prayers every Thursday and Friday night, and I have attained this bliss only through the blessing of reciting them in the world.' She reached this rank. He took her from his mother, left the grave, and brought her to the scholars, ascetics, and great saints of Baghdad. He related the story and what had happened with his mother, from beginning to end. When they heard this, they were extremely amazed. They took a copy from him, and each of them copied one for himself. They tried it and found it as he had said. May Allah benefit us through its blessings. Whoever perseveres in reciting it in this world will not be tested in his grave, nor will fear or terror befall him in his grave; rather, he will remain sound and safe in bliss and joy until the Day of Resurrection. Whoever has a need from Allah Almighty and seeks intercession through it, his need will be fulfilled by Allah's permission. Whoever is sick and the doctors have despaired of him, or is afraid of a tyrant, or is bound in chains and fetters, or has other important needs of this world and the Hereafter, let him perform ablution, pray two rak'ahs after the night prayer before the witr 269, then recite these noble prayers, then place them under his head and sleep. He will see the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who will say to him, 'I have sufficed you against every worry and evil, and all your needs are fulfilled.' If he cannot recite them, and he is illiterate, let him perform ablution, pray two rak'ahs after the night prayer, place them under his head, and sleep. He will attain his goal and achieve his desire by Allah's permission. Whoever perseveres in reciting them, his sins will be forgiven through the blessing of these noble prayers and the blessing of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. May Allah benefit us through their secrets and virtues. Their explanation is lengthy; we have shortened it for fear of prolongation. These are the noble prayers whose explanation and virtues have preceded, and they are countless and cannot be enumerated. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, bless and grant peace to the Eye of Providence, the Treasure of Guidance, the Imam of the Divine Presence, the Security of the Community, the Adornment of the Resurrection, the Sun of the Law, the Embroidery of the Garment, the Helper of the Community, the Prophet of Mercy, the Intercessor of the Nation on the Day of Resurrection, our master Muhammad, the Unlettered Prophet, and to his family and companions, and grant abundant peace, whenever those who remember remember You and him, and whenever those who are heedless are heedless of Your remembrance and his. O Allah, make the reward of what we have recited and the blessing of what we have invoked upon Your Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a gift that reaches him and a mercy that descends with acceptance, good pleasure, comprehensive pardon, favor, rest, fragrance, good things, and the reward of the Qur'an. We present and dedicate it to the presence of Your Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. O Allah, grant him the means 276 and the excellence, the high and lofty station, and raise him to the Praiseworthy Station 277 which You have promised him, and the tied banner 278, and the watered pool 279. And include us in his intercession, all of us, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O Lord of the worlds. Cause us to die in his company and make us among the sincere of his community who act according to Your Book and his Sunnah. Do not cause us to deviate from his path nor from his law. And reward him on our behalf with the best You have rewarded any prophet for his community. O Allah, magnify him in this world by exalting his mention, manifesting his religion, and perpetuating his law; and in the Hereafter by his intercession for his community, by multiplying his reward and recompense, and by granting him precedence in the Praiseworthy Station, and advancing him over all creation until the Day of Witness. O Allah, show us his face and give us to drink from his pool with his hand a pleasant, wholesome drink after which we will never thirst, O Lord of the worlds. O Allah, make a reward like that reward, along with the increase of Your kindness and beneficence, with acceptance, good pleasure, comprehensive pardon, favor, rest, fragrance, good things, and the reward of the Qur'an, flow to all his brothers among the prophets, messengers, martyrs, righteous, and learned scholars who acted upon it, and in our records, O Lord of the worlds. Our Lord, accept from us; indeed You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. And turn in mercy to us; indeed You are the Oft-Returning, the Merciful. And grant a good outcome for the imprisoned, release the captives, turn in mercy to the disobedient sinners, settle the debts of the debtors, and decree safety and well-being for us and for all the pilgrims, the warriors, and the travelers on land and sea from the community of Muhammad, all of them. Have mercy on our dead and the dead of the Muslims, and forgive us, our parents, and all the Muslims, all of them, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. And may Allah bless our master Muhammad and his family and all his companions. Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. And peace be upon the messengers.
